As children, we were told that lying is bad and we should always be honest with our parents. But now, we're in college, and there is a lot that our parents really do not want to know. We don't lie to betray them, rather, we do it so that they don't feel like they have failed as parents. We make mistakes and poor choices, so sometimes, what they don't know won't hurt them.
Here are a few white lies we have told our parents while in college:
1. "I don't have any homework."
2. "I'm working on a paper that's due in two weeks."
3. "I'm applying for a job on campus!"
4. "I can't come home this weekend because I have a huge group project... Maybe next weekend."
5. "My roommate and I just finished cleaning the room!"
6. "Oh... That $300 you gave me? I spent that on textbooks..."
7. "Of course I don't walk home alone at night! That's dangerous!!"
8. "Everyone in the class failed that test. The professor is probably going to curve it."
9. "No, I am not going out tonight... It's Friday!"
10. "I go to class every day!"
11. "Sorry I missed your call on Saturday at 11 p.m. I was in the library all night studying."
12. "I've actually been going to bed at a reasonable hour."
13. "I barely ever drink, and if I do, its not a lot."
14. "No, that's not my boyfriend, we're just friends."
15. "I have to go do some homework, I will call you later!"
