Indiana is a beautiful place and yet, all we are known for are our corn and soybeans! But no longer! Today I want to share with you some special facts you may not know about Indiana!

1. The North Pole actually doesn't get any letters for Santa Claus, believe it or not, Indiana does. Every year, the little town named Santa Claus, IN, actually receives those letters in the hundreds of thousands. And better yet! Every one of those letters gets a reply!

2. Fort Wayne, Indiana is home to the very first professional baseball game on May 4, 1871.

3. No one really knows where the term Hoosier came from.

4. Indianapolis had the pleasure of hosting Elvis Presley's last concert right in Market Square Arena in 1977.

5. Ninety percent of the world's popcorn is grown right in Indiana. Orville Redenbacher himself was actually born in Brazil, Indiana, too.

6. Everyone's favorite cartoon cat Garfield found his first home in Indiana, believe it or not. His creator, Jim Davis, was actually from Marion, IN.

7. Parke County, with 32 covered bridges, is considered the "Covered Bridge Capital of the World."

8. If it wasn't for Indiana, New York's Empire State Building, Rockefeller Center, the Pentagon, the U.S. Treasury, and many other buildings right in Washington D.C. would never exist. Bedford, Indiana happens to have one of the richest deposits of limestone anywhere on the planet that was used to create these historic landmarks.

9. On October 6, 1866, a particular gang by the name of the "Reno Brothers" conducted the very first train robbery in Jackson County, Indiana.

10. The first theme park ever built was right in Santa Claus, IN, on August 3, 1946. Holiday World (or Santa Claus Land at first) wasn't the first amusement park, but creating a park with a theme was a completely new idea to the world.

11. Indiana's home to the World's Largest Christmas Tree. The Circle of Lights in Indianapolis sports an astonishing 52 strands of garland and a total of 4,784 lights. The tree has held that honor since 1962.

12. Legendary actor, James Dean, was born February 8, 1941, in Marion, Indiana.

13. David Letterman, the host of television's "Late Show with David Letterman," was born April 12, 1947, in Indianapolis.

14. Wabash, Indiana was the first electrically lighted city in the World.

15. Lastly, apparently "spiteful gossip" and "talking behind a person's back" are illegal. Someone should probably call every classroom in Indiana. We're sending all middle schoolers to jail.

Welcome to Indiana.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
