PEXELS

I was raised on country music; I was raised on its sound, its message, and its culture.

Driving home from church on a Sunday, country music was playing. Driving down a back road with friends, country music was blaring from the speakers. Washing the car with dad, country music could be heard in the background.

Country music, over the years, has offered many messages for its audience. There are many country songs from the 2000s that we all know, love, and should live by.

Here are just a few:

1. "People Are Crazy" - Billy Currington (2008)

"Then I heard the ol' man say, 'God is great, beer is good, and people are crazy.'"

Never ever forget this.

2. "A Different World" - Bucky Covington (2007)

"Not every kid made the team when they tried. We got disappointed, but that was alright. We turned out alright."

Life isn't handed to you. Healthy competion builds charaacter.

3. "Red Dirt Road" - Brooks and Dunn (2003)

"It's where I found Jesus. Where I wrecked my first car, I tore it all to pieces. I learned the path to heaven is full of sinners and believers. Learned that happiness on earth ain't just for high achievers."

Life is a journey...embark.

4. "Chicken Fried" - Zac Brown Band (2008)

"It's funny how it's the little things in life that mean the most. Not where you live, what you drive, or the price tag on your clothes. There's no dollar sign on a peace of mind, this I've come to know."

Money isn't everything.

5. "This One's For The Girls" - Martina McBride (2003)

"This one's for the girls who've ever had a broken heart, who've wished upon a shooting star. You're beautiful the way you are. This one's for the girls who love without holdin' back, who dream with everything they have."

My anthem to this day.

You are good enough.

6. "Don't Blink" - Kenny Chesney (2007)

"Just like that you're six years old and you take a nap and you wake up and you're twenty-five...next thing you know your better half of fifty years is there in bed and you're praying God takes you instead. Trust me friend a hundred years goes faster than you think So, don't blink."

Time flies. Enjoy it.

7. "Find Out Who Your Friends Are" - Tracey Lawrence (2007)

"You find out who your friends are. Somebody's gonna drop everything, Run out and crank up their car, hit the gas, get there fast, never stop to think 'what's in it for me?' or 'it's way too far.' They just show on up with their big old heart."

Pick your friends wisely.

8. "I Saw God Today" - George Strait (2008)

"I've been to church. I've read the book. I know He's there, but I don't look near as often as I should. His fingerprints are everywhere. I just look down and stop and stare, open my eyes and then, I swear, I saw God today."

He's always there.

9. "I Hope You Dance" - Lee Ann Womack (2000)

"I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean. Whenever one door closes, I hope one more opens. Promise me that you'll give faith a fighting chance, and when you get the choice to sit it out or dance...I hope you dance."

Live.

10. "American Soldier" - Toby Keith (2003)

"Freedom don't come free. "

11. "You're Gonna Miss This" - Trace Atkins (2007)

"You're gonna miss this. You're gonna want this back. You're gonna wish these days hadn't gone by so fast."

Enjoy every moment.

12. "Good Directions" - Billy Currington (2007)

"Way up yonder past the caution light, there's a little country store with an old Coke sign. You gotta stop in and ask Miss Bell for some of her sweet tea!"

Drink as much sweet tea as you can.

13. "Forever and Ever, Amen" - Randy Travis (2009)

"If you wonder how long I'll be faithful, I'll be happy to tell you again. I'm gonna love you forever and ever, forever and ever, amen."

Find real love.

14. "That's What I Love About Sunday" - Craig Morgan (2005)

That's what I love about Sunday: Sing along as the choir sways, every verse of Amazin' Grace, and then we shake the Preacher's hand. Go home, into your blue jeans. Have some chicken and' some baked beans. Pick a back yard football team, not do much of anything."

Appreciate every Sunday.

15. "Where Were You" - Alan Jackson (2002)

"I watch CNN, but I'm not sure I can tell you the difference in Iraq and Iran. But I know Jesus and I talk to God, and I remember this from when I was young: faith, hope, and love are some good things He gave us, and the greatest is love."

Never forget.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
