Depression isn't always what movies make it seem to be. Thousands of people are walking around with a mental illness and lead normal lives. That doesn't mean there aren't odd symptoms still in place.
1. You can live your life almost normally. Something is just always... off.
2. Some days you wake up and the act of getting out of bed seems impossible. So you don’t.
3. You have a bad habit of skipping class frequently for "mental health days."
4. You use self-deprecating jokes as a cry for help.People think your self-decrepitating jokes are either hilarious or concerning.
5. People ask you “what’s wrong?” and you say “nothing” because if you were to tell them everything that was wrong it would take four hours to fully explain.
6. The idea of eating three healthy meals a day and getting a normal amount of sleep seems outlandish. You either sustain yourself with goldfish crackers or scarf down an entire tub of ice cream.
7. You’ve been awake for more 4 a.m.s than most of the general population.
8. You agree to plans knowing there's no way you'll go through with them.
9. When people tell you exercising or being social will help, you get frustrated because it's a struggle to make yourself.
10. You either sleep for four hours or 12. There’s no in between.
11. When people say they’re so depressed you cringe because you know what "real" depression actually feels like.
12. You've followed people's advice and tried activities like yoga and running. The only thing you got out of it was a pulled muscle.
13. Despite everything, you’re still here, and that’s something to smile about.
