I have lived in the Jackson, Mississippi suburbs my whole life. Mississippi has a bad reputation in which some are deserved but others aren't. Jackson has a lot of history and character that should be respected and recognized.

1. Fondren = prime picture taking spots

Having lunch at Babalu or any of the local cute restaurants followed by a photoshoot on all the unique murals is a typical Saturday for you and your friend group in Jackson! There are also a ton of cute shops that you usually end up spending all your money at!

2. The parking lot by sonic

A place to safely leave your car while meeting up with friends, if you want to carpool to wherever the night takes you!

3. Is Clinton really a suburb of Jackson?

Clinton is technically a suburb of Jackson but it really feels like it is a million miles away.

4. Praise the lord for Whattaburger

I am not sure what we ate during the middle of the night before this beauty opened up in Flowood.

5. THE POTHOLES

As known as the worst thing about Jackson. It feels as if you are playing Mario Kart dodging bananas on the highway. Seriously, somebody please fix these things for the love of all things holy.

6. Lakeland traffic

I mean yes they have FINALLY made it 3 lanes... but still. It shouldn't take me 30 minutes to drive 4 miles down the road at 7 a.m.

7. Water pipes bursting is the normal

I feel like every other week there is a "BOIL WATER ALERT" on the television because nobody wants to budget a decent public water system into play and nobody wants to fix it.

8. Mistletoe Marketplace

Mistletoe Marketplace is the destinations to spend all your $$. It graces us with its appearance every November, if you are a shopaholic, like me, this is the place to be.

9. The Rez

It is the best place to be on a beautiful summer day. Whether it's on a boat, hammocking, or just chilling on a blanket, its the best.

10. Kiefer's or Zeeks?

The everlasting stand off between if people prefer Zeek's or Kiefers.

11. Milkshakes from Brent's Drugs

Forever famous for being featured in the movie The Help, and a dang good milkshake too.

12. Roadblocks on Spillway Road

Seriously? Is a roadblock every night realllllly necessary?

13. El Som

Chicken, Cheese, and rice please and thank you.

14. Pepsi Pops

Get on a boat, listen to some music, and have a good ole time with the people you enjoy.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
