Movie marathons are a staple in my house, especially in the month of October. My parents and I spend countless nights watching each and every Halloween movie at least once, maybe even twice. One movie that we watch countless times all year round is Hocus Pocus, and here are 14 reasons why.
1. Max Dennison
Played by Omri Katz, we were introduced to the heart throb Max Dennison who foolishly lights the black flame candle. But seriously, how cute is he?
2. Binx
Who doesn’t love an adorable and ferocious talking cat? Especially one from the 1600s.
3. Bette Midler as Winifred "Winnie" Sanderson
Bette Midler plays Winifred "Winnie" Sanderson, the oldest sister and leader of the trio of witches. This remains to be the best role she's ever played.
4. The Sanderson Sisters
The Sanderson sisters are the best trio of wicked witches. Sarah's stupidity, Mary's sense of "smelling" children, and Winnie's powers makes them the most iconic trio.
5. The "Burning Rain of Death"
The "Burning Rain of Death" will remain one of the best catchphrases this movie has to offer.
6. Salem, Massachusetts
The historic city of Salem, Massachusetts is the backdrop for this movie. It was filmed in some of the hotspots of downtown Salem and also in the city of Marblehead.
7. I Put A Spell On You
We all wanted to "dance until we die" when the Sanderson Sisters sang "I Put a Spell on You."
8. Billy
Billy was around before zombies were cool.
9. Ice
This iconic duo is just what this movie needed, just like Ernie needed that haircut to display his new nickname.
10. Winnie's Magic Spell Book
How cool is a spell book with a moving eye that also levitates when called for?
11. Running Away
Since the witches are used to living in the 1600s, they aren't used to the technology and advances we have today. A firetruck is completely foreign to them which equals a funny scene for us.
12. The Witches' Cottage
How eery and spooky does this cottage look?
13. Sarah Sanderson's Stupidity
Sarah Sanderson is the witch best known for her boy craziness and stupidity.
14. The Final Scene
The movie made us tear up in its final scene when Thackery Binx was finally set free and reunited with his sister Emily.
