I've been a vegetarian for 15 years, which means I've been asked everything in the book. No, Thanksgiving isn't awful, and yes you can get a sandwich at Subway without meat. Whether you're a vegan or vegetarian, I'm sure you've heard most or all of these lines before.
1. "So if you go out to eat, what do you eat?"
Name a restaurant and I'll try to narrow down my favorites.
2. "Why would you do that to yourself? Meat is so good!"
Congrats! My life is pretty great without it.
3. "Wait a sec...you've been a vegetarian for *insert number of years*? Don't you just crave it sometimes?"
Not even the slightest...
4. "Is it some sort of religious thing?"
Peoples' diets are influenced by so much more than just religion these days.
5. 'Isn't it hard living with a lack of protein?"
If you still think meat is the only source of protein, you're sadly mistaken.
6. "Does it gross you out when I eat meat in front of you?"
*heavily sarcastic* Well, sometime in the past 15 years of not eating meat, I have gotten over watching others eat it in front of me.
7. "How do you not love steak??"
Seeing blood come out of my food isn't something I normally strive for, but to each his own.
8. "So you're crazy about animal rights I assume?"
Well, I love animals, and it's my choice not to eat them. If you wanna call that crazy more power to you.
9. "If you care about animals, why are you eating their food?"
Do you not think there are enough plants to go around?
10. "Just pick off the meat."
How about no?
11. "I'm a vegetarian, but I eat chicken and fish."
Wait, what?
12. "How much money would it take for you to eat meat?"
If I am ever offered a large amount of money to eat some chicken nuggets, I'll let you know.
13. "But the Bible says animals are for eating."
The Bible also says not to judge others for their personal choices.
14. "So are you judging me because I eat meat?"
No...what you eat is your choice.
