Haverford

After nearly three months away from Haverford, it's easy to yearn for all the wonderful things that the college has to offer. Between stellar academics, an Honor Code that calls for campus-wide trust and social responsibility, and incredibly smart and passionate people with a wide array of interests, Haverford is truly a top notch place to call home. Since summer is slowly dwindling down and fall semester is lingering just around the corner, here are 14 things you're (hopefully) excited for this semester at Haverford:

1) Customs

Even if you're an upperclassmen who isn't serving on a Customs Team this year, there's nothing more exciting than welcoming a group of new First Year students to campus!

2) Screw Date

Along the same lines, who wouldn't love to watch those same First Years embrace the uncomfortable tradition that is Screw Date?

3) Lunt Cafe

"Summer" is a term that can basically be equated with "Oreogasm and Nacho deprivation"

4) 80s Dance

It's groovy, man.

5) Classes Starting

As it turns out, college is, like, kind of about the education, so taking cool classes is, you know, cool.

6) Being with friends again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do the exclamation points capture the excitement or nah?!?!?!

7) The Stir Fry Bar at the DC

We all missed Jeff. You're lying if you say you don't.

8) The Honor Code

It's been, like, really hard going for this long without being able to trust, concern, and respect people the way you could at Haverford.

9) FAB First Friday

So hype for going into Philadelphia and doing all the cool things!

10) Late nights in Magill

Just a joke. You know, mostly.

11) Intellectual conversations all the time

Sometimes they can be draining, but discussing things that matter in the world is probably one of the coolest things we do at Haverford, both in the classroom and out

12) The Nature Trail

Running (or, in my case, walking) around the Nature Trail is so great!

13) Pinwheel Day

Please, please, please don't mess it up this year, thx!!!

14) Haverford in general

I don't think this warrants an explanation.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
