I can’t really give too much detail into where I work or what I do. In summary, I work for a call center that handles triage nurse and doctor calls. I mostly work 8 to 12 hours per day. So I can up to fifty to seventy calls a day depending on the speed and need of callers. If anyone has ever work in healthcare or at a call center taking information for other medical professionals, then you know all too well its can be stressful.
1. Types of Calls.
You never know what type of call you will be receiving. Could be simple or could be a life or death situation.
2. Presentation.
You always wonder what the callers think of you and how you sound to them on the phone
3. Angry Callers.
I always questioned If the angry callers ever knew they were being recorded or not, or cared.
4. Scripts.
Repeating the same information over and over to everyone who calls can get a little boring.
5. The reward of helping clients.
Many of our callers are patient or parents of patients who are in a serious medical situation it’s a great feeling to be able to help them.
6. Having to keep a constant happy tone of voice.
Having to be peppy for 12 hours straight can be draining, but it has now become a talent of mine.
7. The down time.
When you get long periods of availability, Hallelujah!, I can rest my jaw for a second.8. Comfy chairs.
I'm happy I am not working a job where I am on my feet all day.
9. Counting the minutes.
looking at the clock waiting for break, lunch or clock out time.
10. The waiting game.
When you forgot your book and you have been in available for more than 14 mins you starting praying for a call.
11. High call volume.
The feeling when you take call after call or more than three hours in a row.
12. Holidays.
Oh man, Oh man! Your throat hurts and you lose your voice the next day. Flu symptoms !!
13. Favorite type of calls!
Are the calls where people disconnect. Sadly we still have to make a chart, but at least I do not have to talk for a few moments. Or elderly call, they are some of the sweetest cohort of people.
Don't get me wrong, I love my job and that I am fortunate enough to use my interpersonal skills and psych and health education to help others, but everyone has a few things that annoy them from time to time.
