When it is time to go dorm room shopping, all the prices of everything can really be overwhelming. If you were to go onto Pinterest and type in “Dorm Packing List” a ton of pins pop up. There are a million things you have to buy, or so it feels like a million. You just to remember that you’re moving into a dorm for school. The decorations will come, trust me. Here are the 13 things I would not want to forget to pack!

1. Lamp

Seems a bit obvious, but some people forget to bring one. My favorites are the ones that you can move the neck any which way you want it. Plus, some of them come with a plug which is great for the rooms with the tricky outlets on the wall that are difficult to get to!

2. Fan

Definite must. Mainly because there’s no telling when your AC will break, or your roommate may get cold too quickly.

3. Tall Mirror

If your dorm room doesn’t already come with this, definitely splurge the six bucks at Walmart for a door mirror. They are so nice to have in any room, and it’s a great way to check yourself quickly before you go to class!

4. Curtain + curtain rods + command hooks

You may not think you need it, but the curtains that keep the sunlight out are amazing when you are trying to sleep in!

5. More than one set of sheets

That way you have clean sheets on your bed while you are washing your dirty ones!

6. Storage

Figure out what your dorm room is like, and what kind of storage you need before you go out and buy plastic containers.

7. Mattress topper

The memory foam toppers are heaven. The dorm mattresses are super thin, so any type of foam topper will help you get comfortable at night.

8. Brita water filter

No one likes drinking out of the bathroom sink.

9. Pictures

They make you feel like you’re right at home! You can decorate your wall with frames, or you can use painters tape and make them into a collage.

10. Air freshener

You’ll be living in your bedroom. Eventually, it’ll start to stink if you don’t clean. College dorms do not allow candles, but I’ve come across the wax melting fresheners and they work like a charm. They have a ton of different smells. You just break one off and put it in and it’ll quickly melt the wax cube. Your room will smell great!

11. Quarters

We all know that laundry isn’t free at school, but does anybody really think about bringing quarters in advance? I started this semester and it’s really the best thing I’ve done.

12. HDMI cable

In case you ever want to watch Netflix on your T.V. instead of your laptop.

13. Printer

I have had many times where I did not have time to go to the library to print out my papers and wished I had brought a printer. Get a cheap one with cheap ink and you’ll be fine!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
