So maybe you're not traveling across the country or overseas on some vacation or study abroad.

Maybe you're home for the summer instead of staying at school, but wherever you are know that there are always fun, cool things to do around you! I myself have moved back home for the summer, and here are just a few ways I plan to keep things exciting:

1. Get a Job

Your home for the summer with nothing to do, might as well make a little money, right? Getting a summer job or internship can also really boost your resume. It shows you were active and you didn’t just sit on your couch and watch Netflix, even though we both know that’s what you really want to do.

2. Go to the Movies

A lot of movies get released during the summer because schools out, duh! Several movie theaters run deals during the summer too. Some local theaters show old movies for a dollar with a dollar popcorn, and theaters like the AMC usually do $5 movie Tuesdays.

3. Take a Day Trip

So maybe you can’t go across the country or overseas this summer, but maybe you can just take a cool day trip somewhere. Depending on where you live there is usually some kind of fun around you. For instance, I don’t live too far from the beach, the lake, and the river, so I’ll probably spend a day at one of those this summer. It’s a short and relatively inexpensive getaway, but still holds all the fun.

4. Go to a Museum

If you have any sort of museum near by, check it out! Most are free or low cost, and you can probably find some really cool things!! This is also a good one to take your younger siblings too, or any kids you might be taking care of over the summer.

5. Volunteer!

Many organizations are looking for summer volunteers, so why not give back? This is a fun, feel-good resume booster too.

6. Go for a Hike!

Walking in general can be pretty therapeutic, and is a great way to exercise. Even if you don’t live near any sort of mountains with hiking trials, a great substitute is strolling through your local parks.

7. Get out in your Community

Several communities usually hold free events. Whether it be free crafting or movie nights they’re usually a good time. You can check online or in a local newspaper to see if your town offers a summer calendar!

8. Go to the Library

Yes, I know you just escaped school, but if you enjoy reading like I do, this one is for you. Several local libraries usually hold summer reading challenges, or some hold reading events with special authors/book signings. You can most likely find out any information on your local library’s website or even calling!

9. Hang Hammocks!

When the sun is out, and it is a beautiful day, just chilling in a hammock is what you can probably find me doing. So find two trees, two beams, or whatever and chill out for a day.

10. Bike Around Town

Another great form of exercise yet, amazing way to spend the day is to bicycle. Whether it is around your neighborhood or through town, you can enjoy the sunshine and Earth through a fresh perspective.

11. Picnic!

Grab some friends or whoever and go for a good picnic. I love packing summer favorites like strawberries and watermelons in our picnic baskets. Just don’t forget a blanket and a speaker for some good vibes.

12. Hang by the Pool

Whether you have one, you know someone that has one, or you hit up your local YMCA, hanging out by the pool brings fun for sure. Whether you’re in it for the tan, the cannonballs, or both make sure to bring some sunscreen when soaking up those rays.

13. Camp in your Backyard!

Okay so maybe you can’t camp in the actual mountains or at the beach, but that doesn’t mean you can’t grab some tents and friends and hit up your backyard. A small firepit and smores supplies makes for a fun night!!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
