13 Struggles Of Having Thick Or Frizzy Hair

It's a chore

72

Having frizzy or thick hair is basically a chore. I will forever envy people who can shower at night, give their hair a quick blow-dry, go to sleep and wake up with pin-straight, luminous hair. My hair needs to be washed every night with special shampoo and conditioner, as well as extra detangling products, and straightened the next morning. And if I don’t straighten it, I don’t just look sloppy, I pretty much look homeless. Here are the ultimate 13 struggles everyone with frizzy or thick hair experiences.

1. You spend an hour straightening your hair just to step out in the humidity and have it ruined within minutes.

I absolutely hate when I have to go to special events during the summer because I know my freshly straightened hair is just going to frizz up. Humidity forever will be my enemy.

2. Speaking of humidity, no one will ever understand the torture of straightening your hair in your non-air conditioned bathroom in 90 degree weather.

It takes a special kind of endurance to get through an hour of straightening your hair in the summer.

3. You’ve actually gotten a brush or hair tie stuck in your hair.

People think that these kinds of things only happen in movies, but nope, I have gotten brushes and hair ties stuck in my hair multiple times.

4. Your brushes are always dirty.

People must think I’m such a slob when they see how much hair my brushes accumulate, but the sad thing is I actually clean them almost every day! Unfortunately with a lot of hair comes a lot of shedding.

5. Finding the right shampoo and conditioner is a struggle.

For frizzy or thick hair, you can’t just use any shampoo and conditioner. Some shampoos make your hair too oily, others make it to dry. It’s such a struggle trying to find one that gives your hair the balance it needs.

6. You envy those who can wake up with pin straight hair.

I wish I could get straight out of bed and only spend five minutes on my hair without looking like a slob. Even just a ponytail can take 15 minutes.

7. Going to bed with wet hair isn’t an option.

It’s actually scary to see what I look like when I wake up the next morning after going to bed with wet hair.

8. Trying to figure out what to do with your hair after going to the beach or going in the pool is impossible.

I envy all of my friends who can come straight out of the ocean and get beachy waves. My hair poofs up and I’m resorted to a ponytail or messy bun.

9. Hairspray is a necessity.

Even with my hair in a ponytail, I get those annoying fly away hairs on the top of my head. Hairspray is always needed.

10. You bring hair ties wherever you go.

No matter how perfect my hair looks when I leave the house, I can be sure it won’t last long, so I always have a hair tie on my wrist.

11. Headbands are your go-to.

Headbands are perfect for those annoying fly away hairs on the top of your head. Probably the only benefit of having thick hair.

12. Your hair ties are always breaking.

I can’t even count how quickly I go through sets of hair ties. It’s also a struggle trying to find the right brand that is strong enough for your hair type.

13. You'll never understand people who say they wish they had thick hair

It honestly baffles me that someone could actually want thick hair. They have no idea of the maintenance that goes into taking care of it. But, hey, we all want what we cant have, right?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
