Everyone knows that wave of unavoidable dread that hits at the end of every weekend: the Sunday scaries. No matter how productive or fun the past few days might have been, it seems there is no cure to the anxiety that hits you right in the gut at about 4 p.m. every Sunday. All of a sudden, the only things I am able to think about are how much work I have to do in the next week and how much work I should have spread out over the weekend. Even when I am prepared for the impending school or work week, I can never seem to shake the feeling I've forgotten something or that I will sleep through my alarm in the morning.
The evolution of the emotions involved with the Sunday scaries are just too complex to explain with words alone, so I have utilized a series of gifs from "The Office" to really describe the disquieting whirlwind ending of each weekend:
1. You begin the morning with the best intentions to get all of your work done right away, as efficiently as possible.
2. However, after eight minutes into studying, your BFF texts you about her wild Saturday night and you decide you deserve a "quick break."
3. After listening to her gossip, you decide you deserve to have some fun too before the long week ahead.
4. But then the hangover sets in and you decide you will be doing absolutely nothing for approximately the next eight hours.
5. After ignoring all responsibilities for an unacceptable period of time, you force yourself into a reality check and check your email.
6. After checking your email, you see that nobody has added to the Google Doc for your group project due tomorrow and decide to boycott because you always do all the work.
7. Somehow it is now 11:27 p.m. and all you've done is take 3 naps, watch an entire season of "Master of None" in one sitting and eat your weight in microwave popcorn.
8. You finally check Canvas and see the "one short article" you need to annotate for tomorrow is actually 53 pages long.
9. Then your roommate asks if you want to watch a movie because she's bored and finished all her homework yesterday morning and you can't even respond.
10. Eventually, you give up, accepting there is no possible way to be productive tonight and go to bed.
11. But then you lie awake for two hours stressing about the work you haven't finished and have to get up and do more.
12. After completing the work at 2:00 a.m. that you easily could have done by noon you swear you won't do this to yourself again.
13. And then another week passes and you do the exact thing all over again. Sigh.
