Lake Charles is a pretty good place to call home. It's a small city, or an interesting mix of a country town and a metropolitan area. We all talk about how boring Lake Charles can be, yet we still remain because of its unique aspects:
1. We have been able to observe Prien Lake at beautiful viewpoints due to being stuck in traffic on both the I-10 and 210 bridges.
And now, they're talking about closing 210 for construction, making us solely depend on old I-10. Lord, help us all.
2. To go down any large waterslide, we have to drive all the way to SPAR in Sulphur.
Lake Charles, let's get a waterpark. It's hot as heck all summer.
3. A significant amount of LSU and McNeese apparel is in our closets.
We have to cheer for our state and hometown schools.
4. Low temperatures alone (no ice or snow) has gotten us out of school for the day.
Louisiana shuts down as soon as we have to put on thick jackets.
5. We have evacuated several times due to approaching hurricanes.
Sometimes they actually hit Lake Charles; sometimes they ended up hitting elsewhere.
6. Fourth of July weekend is spent at Big Lake.
Fishing and boating during the day; barbeque and fireworks at night.
7. Fishing and boating isn't limited to holidays.
We're out on Prien Lake on random days. We've also gone paddle boarding, tubing, knee boarding, water skiing, and jet skiing.
8. We're surrounded by Houstonians at Lauberge du Lac and Golden Nugget.
Seriously, these casinos have given us some much needed entertainment.
9. Any new business hits its maximum capacity at its grand opening.
We're always wanting more restaurants, stores, etc., because we're slightly deprived.
10. Contraband Days and Mardi Gras are highly anticipated.
Contraband is unique to Lake Charles. Mardi Gras is unique to Louisiana. We know how to have fun.
11. We've driven on Ryan Street, Lake Street, Sale Road, and Nelson Road countless times.
These are some of the main drags.
12. We're alumni of St. Louis, Barbe, LaGrange, Washington Marion, and Hamilton Christian.
Go Saints, Bucs, Gators, Indians, and Warriors!
13. We know many residents of Sulphur, Moss Bluff, and Westlake.
We feel for them as Lake Charles is the best town in Calcasieu Parish!
