Everyone is proud of where they're from, at least to some extent. It's where childhood memories are made, school drama happens and high school rivalries become alive. Whether you plan on staying in your town when you grow up or move across the country, there's no place like your hometown, and Harrison is a special one. Whether you plan on staying in town to watch your kids become huskies, or decide to move a couple years after graduation, it doesn't matter. Once a husky, always a husky.
1. It's not weird when you describe yourself by what elementary school you went to.
Especially in middle school when everyone is merging from 4 schools into 1, being asked "What elementary school did you go to?" is a normal question.
2. You know that you never have to go far for authentic Italian food.
Whether your family has Sunday dinner every week or you decide to go out to eat, you never have to stress that you'll have a hard time finding a good piece of pizza or chicken parmesan.
3. Even though you live in Harrison, if anyone asks where you're from, you say Westchester.
Yes, Westchester is my county. Harrison is my town. If I said I was from Harrison, most of you wouldn't know what I was talking about.
4. The Rye vs. Harrison game isn't just another game.
Whether it's the hype that comes along with spirit week or the tailgate for the game, no one can fully understand the Rye vs. Harrison rivalry unless they're from one of the two towns.
5. Your friends could live 2 minutes away or 25 minutes away.
It's great having friends from across town, but it might be not so great when you have to drive half an hour at 1 in the morning to get home.
6. You have an abnormal amount of maroon clothes in your closet.
Because maroon and white is always in style.
7. You have a lot of family in town, or you know someone who does.
It's not weird for someone to be related to half of the town. Either that's you, or one of your friends.
8. Being close to the city is totally taken for granted.
Because why spend a minimum of $60 when you can just go out in White Plains?
9. Oh, yeah, and New York City is only referred to as "the city."
Hearing someone refer to any other city as "the city" is just wrong.
10. You know someone who belongs to a country club.
Westchester Country Club, Coveleigh, Orienta, Manursing, and Willow Ridge are just a few of the options.
11. After middle school, it seemed like half of your grade went to private school.
Friendships were truly put to the test when you stopped seeing them every day.
12. Going to downtown on your lunch break is something to look forward to — until you remember the parking.
Going in circles because of your refusal to parallel park is completely acceptable.
13. A husky is so much more than another dog.
Like I said, once a husky, always a husky.
