So, you're an education major? There are loads of us out there. It's almost like a really cool club. When you find out that someone else shares the same passion as you, you instantly have a bond with them. As an education major these are a few emotions, ideas and experiences that we face. These are signs that you too are part of this super cool club.
1. Your reason for wanting to be a teacher sounds super cheesy, but it is the honest truth.
You probably had a teacher who changed your life along the way. Or, you were inspired by one of the movies like "Freedom Writers" or "Dead Poets Society." Holla at bomb movies for English teachers.
2. You did not realize how difficult teaching is as a profession.
You have another level of respect for fellow educators.
3. Money ain't no thang, chicken wing.
Sure, you want to be comfortable and financially stable. However, what is most important to you is knowing that you're benefiting society. You go, Glen Coco.
4. You are forever critical of every teacher that you have.
"Ugh, he doesn't even differentiate."
5. You have a Pinterest board dedicated to teaching.
Maybe you'll even remember that it exists once you graduate.
6. The semester before you student teach, you wonder what the hell you have gotten yourself into.
How do people actually do this? How am I going to actually do this.
7. You have strong opinions about No Child Left Behind and Common Core.
Standardized testing...ugh
8. When posting something with even the slightest bit of controversy on social media, you wonder if it will come back to haunt you.
Maybe I shouldn't post this meme that makes fun of Donald Trump. No, I definitely should.
9. You pretend that your student loans are a figment of your imagination.
Because how on Earth are you going to pay for them?
10. If you're not ignoring your loans, you're always looking for different forms of loan forgiveness for educators.
We both know there's no way you're going to pay the loans back. At least not in a timely fashion.
11. You share lesson plan ideas with your peers when they have to teach a class.
Been there, bro. Education majors, unite.
12. Graduation is not as simple as passing all of your classes.
Student teaching, service learning hours, first aid certification and slowly selling your soul.
13. When students are engaged with an original plan that you created, you feel like you can change the world.
I WILL TEACH FUTURE LEADERS OF THE WORLD. I CAN DO ANYTHING.
