I'm sure most of us have watch the show '13 Reasons Why', and we all know that it swept across the nation like wildfire.
If you haven't watch it, I'l give you a brief rundown. The show is based around a broken community after the suicide of a young girl by the name of Hannah Baker. Throughout the show we see snippets into her life via cassette tapes and flashbacks. The main character of the show, regardless of her status of no longer living, is Hannah Baker. Along with Hannah, the story is also told through one boy that she considered herself to be close to, Clay Jensen. Clay is the newest recipient of the 13 tapes that are passed around to all of the people that Hannah considered to be the main reasons to her forced fate. Each one of the 13 tapes is designated to a person that pushed her to end her life.
Now although this may seem like just a storytelling show, there is so much more to it.

With season 4 coming out, there are definitely things I could put in this article that I wouldn't feel bad "spoiling" (it's been out so long, if you haven't seen it, you should catch up). In order to discuss the fourth season, I will have to mention a few things that have occurred during the first three seasons. I would also assume that because you clicked on this article, you are here to read about the new season.
So, to begin, the new season is now set to try and uncover the truth about who truly killed Bryce Walker. One of the newest season regular cast member is Monty's secret lover, Winston Williams. In the previous season we saw briefly into the relationship between the two, and now for season 4, Winston has come back to prove Monty's innocence. Clay and the reason of the group are left trying to hide the truth in order to save themselves, but also those who have been tormented by Monty.
Now I did write this article in order to raise excitement for the new season of one of the best shows to hit the site of Netflix, but I also wrote it for a more important reason. This show is one of the more important shows that one should watch not only in their spare time, but they should make time to watch this show.
This show really shines a light on the very "taboo" topic of mental health and suicide awareness. Many people refrain from speaking on these topics because they are sensitive topics. Although they are indeed sensitive to talk about, they are also very important to talk about. People must start the conversation in order to help raise awareness for those who may be able to be helped. Many people, especially young teenagers, are going through some of the hardest years of their lives right now. I am in no way pushing aside the importance of adults or even younger children, this show just mainly is geared toward those in high school and college.

Although the issues discussed in the show do not strictly affect those in high school and college, this is a college-based site. So, if you are here reading this right now, I am here to encourage you to speak up. Not only speak up for yourselves, but speak up for others.
Opening up about your own hardships and the stress induced issues you are facing right now, that may help someone that feels as if they are going through similar problems on their own. Not only open up about those problems, check in on those who seem that they are dealing with issues themselves. Sometimes people have too much pride to truly open up about their problems unless they are asked to. So be that light that someone may need today, tomorrow, or even right now. Check in on your friends, regardless if you think that they are okay, they may seem fine, but sometimes it takes a little digging to truly understand how someone is honestly feeling.
Now don't forget to tune in to Netflix on June 5th for the newest and final season of '13 Reasons Why' and don't forget to check in with you friends and loved ones. They may appreciate it more than you know.
