We all know that the show "Thirteen Reasons Why" has been mentioned all over social media. The show first started off as a book, then they turned it into a show. Do I think it was a good idea? Well, yeah I do think that because sometimes instead of reading something, you want to see it visually and actually understand the story instead of getting a bit confused and stuff. I think the show was very intense and depressing, not only because of what each character was going through but the littlest things the story actually tells. What do I mean by that? Well, it is perfectly clear that they all are in high school, having high school drama. I’m pretty sure we all had them, or maybe even something similar to the show.
The show was very graphic and shocking. Even though some of the scenes might’ve been inappropriate to the point that it shouldn’t be shown, I feel like there was a reason for the director to specific scenes. A lot of people may have thought that the show was very unrealistic in which half of the things going on was too “false” to be true. Hannah’s situation of what she was going through and what was happening to her. It made her feel depressed, unhappy, and she faked being alright when she wasn’t. Yes, I do believe some of the things were unnecessary and might’ve not happened in real life, but there was more to the show than Hannah being so “dramatic” of what was happening to her. The point was to make aware to many people that there are individuals who feel alone to the point where they think that they are no longer worth living anymore. Many schools don’t really take an action until something happens. How would I know? Well, because I went to a school like that. It is sad to even think about it, especially because a school is supposed to “teach” you something positive.
Just like Hannah Baker, there are individuals like her, not everyone sees being suicidal the same way, a lot of people have a different take on it. For some, it might be just being depressed for so long, but for others, it might be an overwhelming feeling to the point where they might not know what to do anymore. So why is it that many, including parents, think the show is very dangerous for their kids to watch? Is it because they think that their kids might do something crazy? Well, you don’t always want to watch shows that are sugar-coated. Sometimes, you have to be straight forward in what you want to say or show, and this show was one of them.
Of course, the only unrealistic part could’ve been the tapes and how everyone has heard them, including Clay trying to figure out why Hannah committed suicide. Other than that, I feel like the show was good, it brought out many feelings and emotions of what each character was going through and how they dealt with it. But, this is all my opinion on the show "Thirteen Reasons Why," what’s yours?
