If you've been on any social media in the past few weeks, you'll know the "13 Reasons Why" has been the talk of a lot of millennials. Some say this Netflix series is controversial and others say that this series has been eye-opening for them.
"13 Reasons Why" is a Netflix series (also a book) about a girl named Hannah who commits suicide because of how she was treated by the people around her. Hannah's classmate, Clay, receives a box of tapes 2 weeks after her suicide that he has been instructed to listen to. In these tapes, Hannah gives 13 reasons as to why she did what she did.
The reactions to this series have been very mixed. Some people loved it, some people made horrible memes out of it, and some people absolutely hated it. What people need to realize is that most of the people who are sympathizing with this series are the people who have been put through hell and back by being bullied.
The memes people have made take away the whole meaning of this show. This series addresses serious topics such as rape, sexual assault, bullying and the most obvious topic: suicide. A show like this should be taken as a serious matter, not try to bring awareness to it, only to get memes made out of it in the end.

Making a meme about someone getting a tape because they ate your last chicken nugget is a poor choice. I'm sure some people reading this are thinking that I'm too sensitive and overexaggerating, but these "memes" are tacky and in very bad taste.
Don’t be afraid to talk about suicide. You never know who is needing you to speak up the most.
