Well, it's about that time again. Warm weather is upon us.
I can't help but remember the activities my sister and I would do every day as kids. Heck, I still do most of them now.
Below are just a few of those warm weather activities and memories:
1. Eating Icecream/ Popsicles
Drippy, stick vanilla cones.
Long, cherry popsicles. Once it melted, we got to slurp up the leftover juice.
2. Going to the beach
A family tradition. The hallmark of our childhood. Something that we were always fortunate enough to experience every year. A place where so many memories were made.
At the beach from 10 am to 5 pm? Yep.
Crab legs? Oh, you know it.
Sunburnt cheeks? That was the best part.
3. Swinging on the swing set dad set up
Swinging until the legs came out of the ground. Sliding until we got tired of climbing the latter.
4. Catching lightning bugs
"Oh, I see one!"
"It's crawling in my hand!!"
5. Running around barefoot
Honestly, if our feet weren't black as night when we finally came inside for the day, did we even go outside?
I still find joy in doing this today.
As singer Eric Church writes, "Walking barefoot through the mud will knock the rust right off your soul."
6. Washing cars
This was really just a father-daughter(s) bonding thing.
We sprayed him with the water hose more times than we could ever count on our four tiny hands.
7. Making a "home made " slip n' slide
We used a tarp, some soap, and a really good hill in our backyard.
We loved it.
8. Camping
Making smores. Helping dad with the camper.
9. Fishing
Yall know how to bait a hook? Yep.
10. Bike riding
Riding around the neighborhood, especially in the cul de sac beside our house.
11. Building forts in the woods
Carving out paths and using sticks to create barriers.
12. Setting up sprinklers in the backyard
We would stick our hands in the water to make sure it wasn't "too cold."
And then, we would run through it 100 times. Laughing and screaming.
13. Covering the driveway in chalk art
We would write our name. Draw flowers. Play hopscotch.
We were kids. And we loved it.
