Over the past two years or so, I've gotten into makeup. I started wearing makeup regularly my freshmen year of high school, before that it was just for dance competitions, dance recitals, and other special events. I'll admit I wasn't the best at makeup and I didn't really know what I was doing until my sophomore year of college. Before then all I wore was bottom eyeliner and mascara. Now I can do a full face, contour, and cut-crease eyeshadow no problem. So here are 13 little tips that I learned on my makeup journey.
1. Color correcting concealer is life changing.
If you're trying to hide a red spot, green concealer is what you need. I personally found that yellow works best for me, but that's probably because I have a ton of yellow undertones.
2. Concealer then foundation and then more concealer when trying to hide a pimple.
I repeat concealer, foundation and then more concealer. Conceal the crap out of that pimple.
3. Use an eyeshadow primer.
It'll help keep your eyeshadow on longer and keep it from creasing.
4. Blend your eyeshadow.
There's nothing worse than a person who doesn't blend their eyeshadow.
5. Do your eye makeup first.
Add a little white shadow to the inner corners to open up your eyes.
6. You don't test your foundation on your hand.
Your hand and your face are two different shades. Test your foundation on your neck, or just get matched at the store.
7. Blend your makeup with a makeup sponge.
Because brushes are outdated and leave lines.
8. Curl your eyelashes.
Even if you're using mascara, curl your lashes.
9. Apply makeup in good lighting.
Good lighting is, as DJ Khaled would say, "A major key". You don't want to be doing your makeup in poor lighting and then step outside and look like a circus clown.
10. Use a setting powder or setting spray when you're finished.
It'll keep your makeup on longer throughout the day, just like eyeshadow primer.
11. Highlighter isn't just for your cheekbone.
Highlight the arch in your eyebrows. Highlight your nose. Highlight your cupids bow. Highlight your entire face if you want too because highlighter is amazing and who doesn't want to shine and sparkle?
12. Do not over fill your eyebrows.
No one wants to have eyebrows by sharpie. Follow the natural curve of your brows and fill them in from there.
13. Blend your makeup into your neck.
Don't just stop at the edge of your face. One, if you don't you'll have a harsh line and two, you'll definitely look like a circus clown. Also, I blend it into my hair line as well, so there's no harsh lines anywhere on my face.
