It's 2018! The start of a new year. And, with that, we've all heard the saying 'new year, new me!' But, how many of us actually stick to that and improve from who we were in the last year?

Resolutions don't usually stick around long, and it's kind of crazy to think that you can completely change who you are just because it's a new year.

That being said, you can do a few things to help improve who you were last year. If you aren't happy with how you ended 2017 or if you want to be the best version of yourself in this next year, here are a few tips to help you get there.

1. Pray More

The best way to start off your new year is to focus on Jesus. With that being said, wake up a few minutes early each day and pray. Read your Bible. Honestly, you'll be surprised how much different your day feels, even with just a simple prayer.

2. Drink More Water

Drink a glass when you wake up, a glass when you eat and a glass before you go to bed. And as much as you can anytime in between all of that. It will flush out any toxins in your body, help clear up your skin and keep you hydrated, so fewer headaches. Water is the super drink of all drinks.

3. Take The Stairs

Now, unless you're going to the 33rd floor of a building, try to take the stairs rather than the elevator. It will be good exercise and make up for any time you skip the gym. As much as stairs kill, they're great for you, so try to take them every chance you get!

4. Put The Phone Down

I know you want to keep up with your friends and what everyone is doing. But make sure to put the phone down every once in a while, and enjoy quality time with the people you're with. There is more to life than likes and who saw your story.

5. Read More

Don't just read for class; read for yourself. Read the book you've always had on your shelf but never had time to read. Find a book you never thought you'd be interested in, and read it. Expand your horizons, and fall in love with new characters. See people from that new perspective.

6. Talk To New People

This is something even I have started trying since before the new year. No matter how awkward or uncomfortable you may be, talk to new people. Say hi to the person you've seen a few times, even if it's weird. Make people feel noticed. Be welcoming.

7. Pet More Dogs

This is a must. Always pet the dogs.

8. Take Pictures

Take pictures with people. Of places you go. Capture those moments. But remember to put your phone down, too. Sometimes the best pictures we take are the ones in our mind.

9. Study More

Don't push off studying. Don't freak out about studying, either. Have a good balance. School is important.

10. Listen

Remember, the world doesn't revolve around you. Listen to those who come to you. Be open to giving them advice when they ask. Listen when they tell you a story a million times. Put others first every once in a while.

11. Volunteer

Be a help. Whether at your church, at home or some place in your community. Volunteer, and do it willingly. Sometimes you meet some of the best people in places like that. And the best reward for volunteering is the feeling that comes with it.

12. Make The Most of 2018

Seize each day and every opportunity. Don't waste this year. Cherish every moment you get. Be thankful for each person you meet. Be glad for every experience you have, even if it's hard. Make the most of 2018. This is your year.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
