When's Spring Break?

When you're home for the holidays and the rest of Winter Break, it's a magical time to be alive.

You sleep to your heart's content, you lay around and watch unlimited (and unhealthy) amounts of TV series and movies and you also get to hang out with family and friends. While break is magical and filled with time spent at home, you also can't wait to return to school to your friends and to have your ultimate freedom reestablished.

However, your return is filled with conflicting thoughts and feelings. It's a rough adjustment going through the withdrawals of no longer having Winter Break.

1. You realize that Winter Break was so short.

You barely accomplished all of the things that you wanted to do with your friends and family. Your short-lived Winter Break is gone before a blink of an eye. It's done and over, and it's back to reality.

2. The dining hall food got even worse.

After eating your heart out over the holidays and all of winter break, it's back to the dining hall. After enjoying mom's homemade meals every day over break, it's apparent that the food here is just not like home.

3. How much work you actually have to do.

I forgot how to write, plan out my time or even how to take notes. I've done absolutely no work for 26 days straight and I have no motivation to start now.

4. How you packed way, way too much.

I hate packing and unpacking and organizing. I just wanna go home again, but then again that would require more packing, unpacking and organizing.

5. When did the bed get so small?

Also, when did the showers become even worse?

6. You don't remember what it feels like to get less then 12 hours of sleep every night.

Every morning the light burns your eyes and you feel absolutely dead inside with no motivation to get out of bed.

7. You're not ready to take on all new classes.

A new schedule, a new daily routine, it's all too much to handle. At this point, you just want to go home again and crawl into your own bed.

8. You just don't want responsibilities again.

No, I don't want to go to the library. No, I don't want to wake up for my 8 a.m. No, I don't want to do work.

9. You forget how to deal with any and all stress.

Will you cry on the first week back? For sure!

10. You miss your family.

Including your dog. You really miss your dog.

11. How does one do laundry?

Yeah, nope. I'm not doing it. I'll just wait as long as possible to do any laundry because I have completely forgotten how to do it and I just want my mom to do it for me.

12. How many days until spring break?

Around maybe 60 days? Who's counting, though? Oh, right. Me!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
