The School of the New York Times

Over a month has passed since the first day of summer vacation. However, I am making sure to experience new things and places by organizing and making a list of the various things that would make my summer a productive one. Here are a couple of noted events on my summer bucket list!

1. The Today Show's free concerts!

Rock out to your favorite jams by popular artists such as Ed Sheeran and Miley Cyrus this summer by attending these early-morning concerts!

2. The Bronx Zoo Zipline

Because what's summer without a little bit of excitement + fear?!

3. Road trips

Go up to Catskills for a Spa day with your friends or family!

4. Learn something new

Sounds boring, right? But I personally need to learn something new in order to call it a productive summer.

5. Making/writing new music

Since I don't have enough time to focus on my passion for songwriting when the semester starts, I'm hoping to do the most I can this summer.

6. Experience the Manhattanhenge

NYC's msot popular sunset spot. Manhattanhenge is when the sun aligns with Manhattan for a few days in the year--two days THIS JULY!

7. Boathouse!

Check out the many boathouses around the city on a nice, cool day this summer.

8. SummerStage

The good thing about SummerStage is that it takes place later on rather than early mornings. feel free to stop by after a tiring day at work!

9. Flea Markets

You're still working and waiting for your paycheck...but you need new stuff! Check out the many flea markets that open this summer in almost every borough!

10. Movie under the stars

What's better than watching a free movie under the stars? I'm planning to go to at least one of these events this summer!

11. The Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival

Takes place from Saturday, August 12 to Sunday, August 13 at Flushing Meadows-Corona Park at 10 a.m.

12. PsychoBarn

This year, take pictures and experience the Met's rooftop installation of PsychoBarn--inspired by Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho. For more information, visit: https://www.timeout.com/newyork/art/cornelia-parke...

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
