12 Things I Hope My Younger Siblings Know
Lora Howard

You guys make me so proud to be your sister. I hope you know that I will support you in everything you do in life. I will be there at every accomplishment, award, game, graduation and etc. Even if I am not there, I am there in your heart and cheering you on every step of the way towards your goal. I am going to tell you a few things that I hope you know..

1. I am SO proud of you.

I may not say that a lot, but I am so incredibly proud of the person you are and are becoming. I can't wait to see where you will go in life because I know you'll do such amazing things.

2. Believe in yourself.

Never forget who you are and what you want to do with your life. Never stop believing in yourself. If you need a confident boost, come to me for it. I will always give you a pep talk if you ever need it. You can do anything, I just know it. I believe in you so much.

3. Please, please learn from my mistakes.

I do NOT want you to do the same things I've done that I will forever regret. You are so bright and so smart, don't ever change that.

4. Don't let anyone get in the way between you and your happiness.

You are so strong. You deserve the whole world. You deserve nothing but pure happiness.

5. Don't let your dreams die.

Make your dreams come to life because I know you can do it! It'll take hard work, time and patience but I know you have it in you. Never give up on those dreams that people think you are crazy for wanting. Shoot for the stars and never aim for low!

6. STOP GROWING UP SO FAST!!

You make me feel extremely old. Stay a kid as long as you can.

7. I'll always be your biggest fan.

No matter what you will do in life, I will always be there to support you and to always have your back. Every game, every meet, every milestone, I will be there screaming your name! If someone is picking on you or treating you horribly, I will always have your back!

8. Never lose faith in God.

Life can be hard sometimes but remember God loves you. Never give up on him or lose faith because he will always be there for you. Trust him no matter what happens. Because I promise to you, no matter what you go through in life, God will get you through it all.

9. Mom and Dad love you so much.

They love you more than words. I know you can get angry and upset with them. Just remember that they want what is best for you. Even if you don't think it is at that time. They know so much and they'd do anything for you to make sure you are safe and well.

10. Put God first in everything you do.

Playing a game in a sporting event, give it all to God. Taking a test for school, give it all to God. Whatever you do in life, remember to give all the glory to God.

11. Don't let one break up take control of you.

I've been there, and I have done that. I know what it feels like to hurt by someone you really like. But please, don't let that break up define you. You are so strong and so much bigger than that. If that boy/girl hurts you, leave it to me. You'll find the one for you at the right time one day, don't waste your time on one person because there is so much more to life.

12. Never forget that I love you MORE.

I will always love you. I may not say that enough, but I am going to say it again. I love you and I will forever love you more. I have loved you since the day you were born. I have known you for your whole life, and what an amazing life I have gotten the blessing to watch.

I love you so much my dear siblings. More than you'll ever know.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
