When you go to college, your relationship with your parents change. Going to college is stressful. I don't think I could have survived the past three years without them. So here's to you, Mom and Dad-- the reasons parents rock:
1. They support you no matter what.
"Hey dad, I think I'm going to change my major! Yes, for the twelfth time. Definitely sure this one is the one for me, though!"
2. They celebrate your victories with you.
"I went today without a nap!"
"I got an A on the test!"
"I went on a walk today!" (It's the little things, clearly)
3. They come to every single function they can and sometimes come to see you just for fun!
"You're driving three hours just to take me to dinner? YAY!"
4. You begin to understand why they grounded you in high school.
That 10 o'clock curfew you gave me in high school that I hated? I definitely wish you could ground me in college. What I would give to be forced to stay home!
5. Going home to see them is honestly the GOAT.
Clean showers. Clean floors. For whatever reason, your mom's detergent smells better than what you buy, EVEN THOUGH IT'S THE SAME KIND.
6. They still give you money.
When else in your life are you going to be able to call and ask for $10 for queso and chips? Never. Literally never again.
7. They pay your rent.
Honestly, this is the most amazing thing and I don't thank y'all enough. Living is expensive. Please don't make me grow up.
8. They're your friends now.
My parents know everything. That girl in my Monday class who smacks her gum too loudly three rows up? They know all about you.
9. They understand college is hard because they've been there.
I took a class over winter break. One week in the class, I called my mom and told her I was coming home. Sometimes you just need to sit on the couch with your parents and watch reruns of "The Golden Girls."
10. Your mom stops judging you for having mini obsessions
Sorority shirts, Nike shorts, running shoes, and yoga pants. JK. They for sure still judge them, but they've accepted it now.
11. They show continuous love and grace.
No matter how many times you mess up or disappoint them, they're always there to give you a reassuring hug and a kiss on the forehead.
12. They pray for you.
I know they prayed for me before, but they definitely do now. I'm about to be in the "real world" and I'm making big girl decisions (eek!) but I know that I'm constantly covered in prayer.
My life motto is WWMD-- "What Would Mom Do." (She's just SO wise). My parents are honestly the best and I don't know what I would do without them.
Thanks for the past (almost) 21 years of memories, fam! I love y'all more than you know!
