Ah, college.

While college is one of the most exhilarating times of your life, it is also one of the most confusing and stressful. You're introduced to a completely different lifestyle, and trust me when I say that college is a VERY different atmosphere than high school. And let's be real, we've all asked ourselves these questions since starting college?

1. Can I actually do anything with my major?

Okay...I know I can't be the only one who has thought this as I reluctantly click the button to declare my major.

2. Why did I decide it was a good idea to take an 8 AM?

Trust me when I say that taking an 8 AM is the worst decision you'll make in college. If the class you need to take is only offered at 8 AM, you'd better make sure there isn't an attendance policy.

3. Why is attendance mandatory in this class?

I know we all have those classes where attendance is required because if it wasn't, then no one would show up.

4. Everyone is like, discovering themselves. Should I be doing the same thing?

Sometimes I look around and feel like a very small fish is a GINORMOUS pond. It can be extremely overwhelming as a freshman in college to look around and see that a lot of people have their lives together and you, well, don't.

5. WHY AM I STRESSED ALL OF THE TIME?

Okay, don't let your high school teachers scare you into saying that every class is hard because some classes are extremely chill. However, you should be prepared for the one class that you'll have every semester that will make you want to jump into a black hole. Just saying.

6. How is this the best place and the worst place ever?

College is beyond great. I never experienced love and school pride for my high school the way that I experience it in my college. However, you will have days where you absolutely dread the idea of going.

7. Am I the only one who doesn't want to party all the time?

To answer your question, no. You are not the only one who doesn't want to party 24/7.

8. Why would they put a Starbucks in the building I spend the majority of my time in?

I mean seriously...my part time job and college student budget cannot support my Starbs habit and putting a Starbucks in the Social Sciences building is NOT helping.

9. Is it just me or does this not make any sense?

Nothing is more stressful than looking at the powerpoint slide and not understanding a word that comes up. However, you are more than likely not the only person who doesn't understand what is going on. In fact, if you're confused, that means you're probably one of the few people paying attention.

10. Am I missing out because I'm not studying abroad?

For further insight on this, check out Emina Peljia's article 10 Reasons Why I Didn't Study Abroad And Am Okay With It. On the other side of the spectrum, it's never too late to study abroad so if you're really thinking about it, I'd say go for it!

11. How am I going to survive 4+ years of this?

Freshman year can be super duper stressful, but I promise that once you find your niche, it'll be so much smoother. Not to give you the idea that you won't stay up all night reading and studying, because you will, but you'll be interested in the things you are doing.

12. How do people not want to go to college?

I get that school isn't for everyone, but college is so much more than just school. It's an opportunity to discover yourself. I think it's something that everyone should experience at least for a semester.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
