Although I'll be abroad for the first month of summer this year, I still look forward to my summer bucket list. Every year, I create a list of places or fun activities to complete before school starts up again. It allows me to stay busy and keeps my adventurous soul sane. Below are some items I like to do every summer, most of which Indy natives can probably relate to:
1. Turkey Run State Park
The best place for hiking. I love taking in the scenery and spending time outdoors.
2. Chicago, IL
My family will probably end up going to Chicago a couple times this summer because we love it so much. I also plan to be in Chi-town for a concert this summer.
3. Ruoff Home Mortgage Center (It will always be "Klipsch" to me.)
As an avid concert-goer, it's inevitable I will be here many times this summer. From country concerts to one of my favorite R&B artists coming to Indy this summer, I cannot wait. This place is always my second home.
4. Traders Point Creamery
Located in Zionsville, this place is an organic farm. You can walk around the farm to see some of the animals and top off your tour with a delicious milkshake.
5. Boating on Geist
I love being able to go boating on Geist Reservoir and to hang with my family on a nice summer day.
6. Complete a Major Art Project
Last summer I painted and designed a cooler taking me a little over two weeks to complete. I worked on this project everyday and I absolutely loved doing it. I haven't quite figured out what this year's project will be, but I love having the time to be crafty and creative.
7. Hammock at Flat Fork Creek Park
I enjoy taking my Eno to Flat Fork to chill, or even climbing into one of the treehouses.
8. Ziplining
I did this with my cousins a summer ago and I highly recommend it. Go Ape! at Eagle Creek Park consists of a high ropes course followed by various ziplines.
9. Visit Another State
Growing up in a family with crazy basketball schedules and a desire to go try new things, I feel so thankful to be well-traveled. However, I put this on my list with hope that my family takes a spontaneous trip to another state, even if it's just because my sister's basketball tournament led us there.
10. Indianapolis Zoo
I love animals and I love being outside. The zoo is the best way to encompass them both.
11. Baseball Game
What is more American than attending a baseball game in the summer? Indianapolis only has the Indians in the minor league, but luckily there are numerous MLB teams nearby.
12. Drive-In Movie
I have always wanted to do this with some friends during the summer...
13. Run, Walk, or Bike the Monon Trail
This is the best way to get outside and be active. The trail also runs past really good restaurants so you can work up an apetitite.
If anyone ever needs ideas of fun things to do in Indianapolis or the surrounding area, let me know. These 11 items are a great start. I hope this summer is one of the best yet!
