When you go off to college, let's just say... a lot changes.
There is no one to wake you up when you sleep past your alarm or no one to be your guilty conscience when you're reaching for your third brownie in the dining hall. Coming home for three months and adjusting to having a schedule and a system of rules again is sure to be quite the rude awakening.
I think we can all agree there are certain things we've grown accustomed to while away at school:
1. Having no curfew.
Sure, you may have had no curfew senior year, but you still occasionally received those "where are you?" texts from your mom, which meant you should probably get home soon. In college, you can stay up til the early morning with no ridicule.
2. Procrastinating everything.
Oh, that D2L assignment is due at midnight? I'll start it after "The Bachelor" ends at 9.
3. Napping. All. The. Time.
Is there anything better than coming back from class and taking a nice long power nap? Of course not. When you're home, your parents will expect you to be productive around the house, or God forbid, get a summer job, leaving little to no time for naps on the regular.
4. Going out almost every weeknight.
If you have any Friday classes, I sincerely feel bad for you. There's just something about going out on a weeknight that feels so much better than a Friday or Saturday.
5. Drinking wine while doing anything.
Mom, what do you mean I can't have a glass of wine?! It helps me relax, and you should probably have one with me.
6. Using your ID card to "pay" for nearly everything.
If you've ever tried to pay for the damage you did at Target with your student ID, you know the struggle. Your ID works as your debit card on campus, so why can't it work everywhere?
7. Not having to work a real job.
If you do have a college job, it's most likely a few hours here and there when you can squeeze it in after class. Jumping back into a full-time job while you're home isn't exactly something to look forward to.
8. Eating whatever you want, whenever you want.
Pizza at 2 a.m.? Why not! Brunch on Sunday morning? Obviously!
9. Binge-watching Netflix series well into the A.M.
On a rainy day (or any day, really), what's better than laying in your lofted bed and watching Netflix?
10. Having no chores. Or at least not being held accountable for them.
Without your parents there to guide you, you're surely not going to vacuum or dust your dorm room. Sorry, Mom!
11. Having a long distance relationship with your best friend.
If you and your hometown BFF went to separate schools, you know it sucks. You miss them like crazy, but you get used to not seeing them very often.
12. Having no rules.
Along with going out on the weeknights and never vacuuming your room, you surely don't have a lot of rules to follow. This is both a blessing and a curse, so you must use your newfound freedom with responsibility.
After months of trying to use your meal swipes at off campus restaurants and binge-watching Netflix all night, we can't help but have grown accustomed to a couple bad habits while away at school.
Mom and Dad, please forgive me?
