As Valentine's Day is approaching, many are filled with mixed emotions. Maybe you dread Valentine's Day or maybe you look forward to it with anticipation every year. For all you couples out there, I'm sure you're planning a "relationship goals"-worthy Valentine's date that you will shamelessly post on Instagram for all your single friends to see. For those of us who are single this year, do not fear. Instead of binging on assorted chocolates (that you may or may not have bought for yourself) and living vicariously through sappy chick flicks, stop the pity part and treat yo self this Valentine's Day. Try these 11 ways to have the greatest "single" Valentine's Day yet.
1. Throw a Galentine's Day Party
Instead of crying about being single by yourself, why not throw a party to cry about your love life with a whole group of other single people together? Who knows, maybe you'll end up meeting that special somebody as your bond over your pathetic relationship status.
2. Plan a super cute date for you and your best friend
Go all out. Use this as an excuse to wear that super cute outfit you've been dying to show off, do your hair and makeup on point, and eat at your favorite restaurant. Offer to pay for each other's meals and free your minds of all your (boy) problems.
3. Buy whatever item has been in your "checkout" for the past month
Maybe it's that Free People slip or LuLu Lemon leggings -- there's nothing like retail therapy. Although I would not advise spending the remainder of your last paycheck, treating yourself to that special something just once never hurts.
4. Go see the latest chick flick with your friends
I'm sure yet another Nicholas Sparks chick flick will be in the theaters. Instead of wishing you were seeing it with a significant other, go with your friends and make fun of all the basic couples you spot in the theater. (BTW, Ryan Gosling, you can be my Valentine any day).
5. Treat yourself to brunch
Because who doesn't love brunch?
6. Take a personal day
Get a manicure and a pedicure too if you're feeling adventurous. Eat at your favorite restaurant, and maybe order dessert if you really want to treat yourself. You deserve to feel special every day.
7. Send anonymous Valentines to your friends
Nobody should be sad on Valentine's Day. Write your friends secret letters or bring them little chocolates to make their day. You know when your friends are happy, that makes you feel happy too.
8. Have a wine and Thai food night
Pretend to be sophisticated, independent adults who are in no need of a relationship. Sip your wine, eat your Pad Thai, and discuss current events like you know exactly what you're talking about.
9. Go on a nice picnic
If the weather's nice, buy some takeout and find a cute picnic spot for you and your friends to enjoy.
10. Buy yourself fancy truffles
OK, I know I said not to binge on chocolate this year, but what's Valentine's Day without a box of chocolates? Indulge yourself because the single life is hard and you're worth it.
11. Text that cute boy
You know who I'm talking about. Let's be honest, as much as you claim to "hate Valentine's Day" and "don't care about being single this year," you know there's that special someone who you wish you were spending the day with. YOLO it this year and send that flirty text...you never know until you try.
Rather than hating on Valentine's Day this year, realize it really is just a holiday and there's no need to let the pressure of "relationships" or lack there of get to you. Enjoy the day, eat some chocolate covered strawberries, buy yourself a bouquet of flowers, and embrace the #singlelife.
