Maybe last semester you set goals that you wanted to complete. Somehow as time progressed things began to slip a little bit. Perhaps you didn't get the grade you wanted in that class or felt that you slacked more than usual. Just because last semester wasn't your best doesn't mean that you can't turn it around. The summer months are the perfect time to plan ahead of time. You will go into the new semester with a game plan and finish strong.

1.Order your textbooks ahead of time

Let's face it. We pretty much know what we will be learning when we order our text books. Why not try to learn some of the material before the course starts. If you don't understand something you have plenty of time to learn. You will be ahead of your class. It will benefit you in the long run.

2.) Make a schedule and stick with it.

If you already know what classes you are taking then go ahead and make a schedule. A schedule will help with time management and also to ensure you wont forget anything important. Following out a schedule will also help keep you on track and deter from procrastination.

3.) Find out what resources are available

Many universities have resources available to their students. The funding for these resources automatically comes out of your tuition. Many of these resources include counseling, tutoring services, free seminars, and even financial help. Be sure to take advantage of these opportunities. These resources are in place to help you.

4.) Buy all supplies ahead of time

Don't wait to the last minute to buy the school supplies that you need. These are the tools that are going to help contribute to your success. Think of it this way, would you go to your soccer game without your cleats? I don't think so, there's no way you would be able to win. Use the same attitude for school.

5.) Eliminate extra stress

Eliminate extra stress by making school a number one priority. That means school comes before work, hanging out with friends, even before outside activities. If working is absolutely necessary then make sure your manager knows that school is a priority so you won't be working more than you can handle.

6.) stay on good terms with your professor

It's ok to ask questions. Most professors don't mind it. By asking questions and meeting deadlines. This will allow your professors to get to know you. It might help in the long run if you need an extra push. Professors are willing to help students who are trying.

7.) make at least one friend in each class

Making friends in your classes will help big time. If you miss a class that person can help you catch up. If you don't understand something then maybe your friend will and vice versa!

8.) be humble enough to ask for help

Several students every year do not adequately display their full potential because they do not ask for help. When you don't ask for help you are limiting your resources to succeed. Most times if you raise your hand In class someone has the same question. Don't worry I'm guilty of it too! I now know that I can't expect to get an A if I can't ask for help when I really need it.

9.) Understand that you are not perfect

Another key factor to success is to accept that you are not perfect. Do not stress trying to be super beyond your expectations. You are going to make mistakes because you are human. Those mistakes will help you grow even more. Set realistic expectations for yourself and everything will run smoothly.

10.) eliminate excessive free time

Free time is good but too much free time is dangerous. If you find yourself having excessive free time then use the spare time to work on a subject that you feel you could be doing better in or doing work in advance. There is always work to be done somewhere. The more time you spend on it, the better you will be. Your grade will improve tremendously as well.

11.) Be open minded

Even though you probably already have expectations on how you want your semester to go, being open minded doesn't hurt. Be open minded to new ways of learning, new friends or even a new interest. These are the things that will help you learn more outside of the classroom. Having a open mind will teach you many things that you will carry forever.

Planning ahead of time, setting realistic expectations and hard work will help you get on the right track for next semester. If you start to fall behind ask for help before it's too late. Use the resources available to you. If something isn't working be sure to implement a new plan. If you do these things you are bound to be successful next school year and for many more. Your upcoming semesters will surely be better than your last!

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
