When we reflect back on past memories and the things that we said or did, it’s hard to not cringe from the hindsight embarrassment of our actions. If you’re like me, the feeling intensifies when you stumble across your old diaries and you read back what you once thought were your most “profound” thoughts.
Here are 11 tragic excerpts from my childhood diary, so that you can suffer along with me.
1. January 4, 2008: "ONIF!! (Oh no, it's Friday!) Today is the last day of vacation besides the weekend."
2. January 4, 2008: "I hate the Jonas Bros! They are so dumb and I hate Kevin's hair! It is so curly and he has ugly sideburns! Nick's hair looks good on him at least, but why do Miley and him like each other?! They are both so dumb!"
3. January 5, 2008: "This commercial is soooo stupid! It is about a man and Sunny-D trying to balance on a log. I need a cookie!"
4. January 6, 2008: "I can't believe I'm going to miss Wizards of Waverly Place because I have to go to bed early! It is going to be sooooooo funny."
5. January 6, 2008: "The Zoey 101 movie 'Goodbye Zoey?' is taunting me! This is at least the third time I saw it since Friday."
6. May 25, 2008: "I never felt like this about a boy, but I feel like I need to see him or hear him badly!"
7. July 3, 2008: "I had the creepiest dream last night! It all started with a day in the pool, then suddenly Voldemort popped out of nowhere."
8. October 9, 2008: "I can't wait to see him tomorrow or tonight in my dreams. Lately I’ve been dreaming a lot of him and I'm sick (literally) of waking up to it being a dream!!"
9. April 12, 2011: "While I'm drinking, they pass and he says, 'Have a good weekend, Ari' and meanwhile, I try to reply, but in my haste begin choking on WATER!"
10. September 7, 2011: "I looked, saw him and we both looked at each other and for me at least it felt like the world had frozen."
11. May 25, 2013: "I'm now a Sherlockian and Whovian! The others are proud of my fangirl progress."
