So if you live in Tuscaloosa, or just pass through, you may notice that driving here is a little different than other places. I'm not sure if it's the number of people or if it's the small town but something about this place is difficult for drivers. Here are some tips for new T-Town drivers or those just passing through.
1. Don't run the stop signs... There are 500 I know but they are there for a reason.
Just trust the system and do what they say, STOP.
2. The red-lights have cameras so don't run those either.
3. The blinking yellow turn signal means yield.
This does not mean you need to speed up and try to make it.
4. The lanes are small, so stay in yours.
5. Parking spots are small, and there isn't a lot in this college town.
So park between the lines.
6. If you end up in the wrong lane just go down and turn around.
Do not try to turn from a lane that is supposed to go straight, people will lose their minds.
7. We all hate being behind the train, it's annoying to everyone, but racing the arm that blocks the road is a death wish.
You're not indestructible.
8. While pulling out in front of people sometimes is a genuine mistake, it can be costly either way.
Look both ways and then look again.
9. Pedestrians actually have the right away.
You can not run people over, not cool.
10. The bikers are supposed to drive on the road and follow traffic laws.
Most of them do not so be prepared and aware when you get near someone on a bike.
11. The Crimson Ride buses also have the right away on campus when they pull out from bus stops.
Trying to fly by them only puts you and everyone around you at risk.
And remember to drive safe, Tuscaloosa!
