11 Thoughts A Server Has

Being a server can be a rewarding job, but that doesn’t mean it comes easy. It’s a whole bunch of multi-tasking, working long hours and coming home feeling like you’ve run a marathon and then got hit by a truck all at the same time. Servers work really hard to make sure your dining experience is a good one because the more you enjoy yourself, the more you’ll probably leave your server as a tip. Servers rely on their tips because it’s literally their only source of income. Just know that while your server is running around getting you whatever you need with a smile on their face, they could be thinking of all the things they wish they could say about their job.

1. Yeah, sure, I’ll get you your third refill in the past five minutes.

It’s not like I have anything better to do.

2. Yes, I totally want to hear your life story.

Please tell me all about your childhood and your job while your food is probably getting cold in the kitchen.

3. Sure, I’ll order the hot wings for you even though I know you’ll send them back because they’re too hot for you.

4. Please don’t yell at me for your food taking forever.

As a server, there is only so much I can do. After all, I’m not the one in the back making the food for you.

5. Please control your children.

Don’t let them crush chips up, and break crayons and throw them on the floor. I don’t get paid enough to clean up after your children.

6. Please be patient, especially if you can visibly see that I am busy.

I am only one person juggling five or six tables, and all of those tables needed something at the exact same time.

7. Please do not talk down to me.

Just because I am providing a service to you it doesn’t mean I am any less human than you.

8. Please, please tip me well.

I know I gave you good service and tips are my only source of income. Servers don’t get paychecks. And no, $5 on $45 is not acceptable.

9. Yeah, I’m a double today but since you just want to sit and drink today, I’ll stay until close with you.

10. Thank you for calling me by my actual name instead of, “That girl with the blonde hair.”

11. At the end of the day, I actually do enjoy my job.

It’s trying at times, and stressful, but it allows me to pay the bills and I really can’t ask for anything else.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
