11 Things You Need To Start Doing Right Now

In moving to my new house at Purdue for my senior year, I got to thinking. This may be my last year of college ever. My last year of complete freedom and fun. So I made a list of things to start doing while I still have the opportunity. Eleven Things you need to start doing now.

1. Travel more.

You have all the freedom in the world at this age, travel to different states or countries. Meet new people and make new friends all over the world. You have nothing tying you down or holding you back, so buy that ticket and explore.

2. Going to concerts.

This one may seem like a given, but shows can be pricey. You deserve to have at least one night of pure fun to listen to your favorite bands or musicians. This can also give you the opportunity to travel, and get out of your town with your friends.

3. Meeting new people.

In Our early twenties, we usually have a solid group of dependable friends that we’re comfortable with, but one of the greatest lessons I’ve ever learned was to put myself out of my comfort zone. Doing so opens the door for new opportunities and challenges.

4. Write down your experiences.

Don’t let a single memory go abroad, write down the special moments, the tough times, the random thoughts, the midnight conversations, everything.

5. Make memories and take pictures.

Narrate these memories, keep the pictures, hang them up, glue them in a book and write about them. But never forget about them, these moments of your life are fleeting and precious, hold on to them dearly.

6. Don’t get stressed about the future.

This is by far the most difficult, it's easy to get wrapped up in all the stress, and uncertainty but when this happens take a breath and just relax for a minute, assure yourself that it all works out in the end.

7. Open up to people.

Most people are by nature protective of themselves and untrusting of others. Many people, like myself, are guarded when it comes to opening up to people. But what I’ve found is that the risk of getting hurt is worth it.

8. Go for something risky.

You never know what’s possible until you try. You can accomplish more than you think you’re capable of achieving. As a population, humans are very self-critical and insecure. Nine times out of ten we don’t achieve our goals because we are anxious about the possibility of failure.

9. Do what you love.

You have no time to waste. Don’t chase someone else’s dream because you’ll realize how miserable you are when it’s too late. You will be the most successful you can be if you do what you love and what you’re good at.

10. Share your work.

When you’re young is the best time to share your work. Being a rookie is a blessing because rookies can share their work without the worry of the quality. You have nothing riding on your success yet, so share your work, and get your name out in the world.

11. Aspire to inspire.

This should be your ultimate goal. You don’t want to inspire people to be you; you want to inspire people to be them!!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
