In a small town you don't have any fancy malls or clubs to go to for fun. No, in a small town you have to make your own fun. That can range from hunting and fishing to driving around drifting your car and everything in between. Here is a list of 12 things we do for fun in the country.

1. Hunting

In a small town hunting is not just a hobby, it's a passion. There are so many hunting season that there is always something to got and shoot whether it be deer, ducks, geese, grouse, rabbits, or even bears if that's your thing. There is almost always a hunting season open so small town hunters can go out and waste hours trying to shoot some animal just for the adrenal rush, and the meat.

2. Fishing

Fishing has pretty much the same principles as hunting accept with just a little more effort and probably a lot more time. There is nothing like the rush of feeling a large fish attack your line in the hopes that you will be able to reel it in and have a fish fry that night

3. Camping

Now to some people might think that sleeping in a semi-water proof tent on the cold hard ground in a sleeping bag is just plain insane. And then you have small town folks who just love being in tune with nature. There is nothing like sitting around a campfire for hours and then falling asleep to the sounds of nature. It's just majestic.

4. Gun Range

We love going to our local gun range and firing off a couple boxes of ammunition. The sound of the bullets leaving our gun is just a satisfying sound.

5. Watching High School Sports

In a small town if its a Friday night in the fall, you better believe we are watching the local high school football game. That also goes for any season to be honest. If there is a game to watch and time to kill, you better believe small town folks will be there to watch and support their team.

6. Playing a pickup game of basketball, baseball, or football

If there is enough people and enough time it is very common for a pickup game of baseball, basketball, or football to start up. There is nothing better than spending time with your friends and getting a little exercise.

7. Cornhole

Another fun game we spend probably way to many hours playing is cornhole. Cornhole is a simple game where you try to throw a bean bag into a basically a tilted block of wood. If you get the bean bag into the hole in the block of wood, then you just threw a cornhole and scored the most amount of points possible in one throw. Needless to say many hours are wasted on this game.

8. Taking a Drive.

Another fun activity to do in a small town is to gather up your friends and just go for a drive. You can talk to your good friends while seeing some awesome sights such as leaves turning a different color in the fall or driving past big open lakes.

9. Drifting

Something we like to do in a small town is get in our truck and find a good ol' dirt road and drift our cars around the corners as fast as possible. There is just a simple rush you get from feeling your truck whip around a corner, completely out of your control. We all spent many hours on a dirt road perfecting this art.

10. Mudding

Keeping with the trend of stupid things we do in our trucks... often times after a rain storm or when the snow melts we love to go mudding. There is just an awesome feel you get when you are gunning you truck at full throttle trying to make it through the pit of mud and preying to god you don't have to take the walk of shame if your truck gets stuck.

11. Gnoming

Now this "activity" is rather juvenile and not one I would recommend but it has been known to happen from time to time. Gnoming is when, at night, you "borrow" folks garden gnomes and do fun things with them such as bringing them to interesting places and taking pictures of them there and then returning the garden gnome to its home with pictures of where it has been just to mess with its owner. But more often than not garden gnomes become shotgun targets... and don't make it home.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
