11 Things Every Shy Sorority Girl Knows To Be True
Priscilla Moon

Being a shy sorority girl in the society we live in is is sort of like being a unicorn in the sense that no one thinks you're real. If I had a dollar for every time someone told me "sorority girls aren't shy," or "you're too quiet to be a sorority girl, " I could pay for college. So whether you yourself are one of these "rare" individuals, or are a non-believer, here are some experiences shy sorority girls will know all too well.

1. Your Bid Day was easily one of the most exciting and terrifying days of your life.

All those girls running, hugging, and chanting. Very awesome, but very stressful.

2. Talking to PNMs feels a lot like giving a COM 101 speech.

You're so excited to get new sisters but...What if you don't know the answers to the questions they ask? What if you can't think of anything else to talk about? There's so much uncertainty.

3. It's rare if you ever post in a GroupMe chat.

You are, however, a huge fan of the heart button.

4. It's even more rare that you volunteer to go into another sorority or fraternity's chapter meeting.

*Don't trip. Don't trip.*

5. Saying "here" while taking attendance in formal chapter meetings is a special kind of embarrassment.

Is it just me, or did my voice sound really high?

6. Convincing yourself to actually go to a party is one of the most exhausting forms of mental exercise.

7. Hearing your sister say, "Stay here, I'll be right back," at any social event is why you almost didn't go in the first place.

Please don't leave me alone to socialize.

8. You think about turning around at least twice on the way to any social event that isn't mandatory.

9. And will wait in your car until you're sure that you're not the first one of your sisters to arrive.

10. Don't even get me started about asking guys to date nights, semi, and formals.

Am I sweating? I'm definitely sweating.

11. But there are special people who refuse to believe you're shy, because you're not around them.

These are the ones you can be silly with.

The ones who think your awkwardness is adorable.

The ones who are always there for you.

So, for all the girls who think they're too shy to be in a sorority, you're not, and will be proven wrong by the most wonderful people.

You will find the people you can be yourself with, in not only your sisters, but other Greek organizations too. I don't know where I'd be without my sorority, and that's because of the people I've met. The ones who've helped me forget that I was ever shy at all.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
