If you live in an area that gets hot and humid in the summer, there is a big chance that you will have to deal with the tiny devils that are mosquitoes. Even though their lifespans only last up to six months, they make sure to be as annoying as possible during their short time on earth. Besides the fact that they are nuisances, mosquitoes also have the ability to transfer different diseases, such as the West Nile Virus and encephalitis. There are many things in this world better than getting bitten or having an interaction with a mosquito. Although these situations are awkward and uncomfortable, most people would prefer to be in this situation to being near a mosquito.
1. Pizza Burn On The Roof Of Your Mouth
Imagine yourself preparing to eat a freshly made pizza. It’s got your favorite toppings, your favorite kind of crust and there is one slice that is practically begging for you to eat it. You take a bite and the piping hot cheese burns your mouth. It hurts for a second, but this sting is nothing compared to the bothersome itch of a mosquito bite that won’t go away.
2. Brain Freeze
An ICEE or a nice ice cream cone is a great way to cool down on a hot summer day. In the middle of eating your frozen treat, you get a rush of pain to your head. A brain freeze is the body’s way of telling you to take a break with the frozen treats and can easily be taken care of by sticking your tongue to the roof of your mouth or by eating something warm. This headache may cause you to set down your rocky road, but it is better than having to swat at a pesky mosquito that has been following you all day.
3. Sock Gets Wet While Wearing Them
Summer nights are perfect for going on a nice walk, but sometimes while you are on a walk, you may be interrupted by some summer rain. Once the rain starts pouring, your tennis shoes, and then your socks become soaked with water. Soggy shoes and socks can be very uncomfortable as you feel the water squish between your toes, but this awkward sensation is much more enjoyable than finding different mosquito bites all over your body.
4. Person Walking Behind You Steps On The Back Of Your Shoes
Whether you are walking on a crowded street or in a hallway, there is always a chance of someone getting too close and stepping on the back of your shoes. Even if this action is accidental, it has the ability to throw some people off balance. While this event tends to be annoying, it is not as annoying as trying to scratch the one mosquito bite on your foot while you have shoes on.
5. Touching Old Gum Underneath A Desk Or Table
Every once in a while, you may have to move a desk or table to rearrange the room for an event or an activity. Sometimes this desk or table will have an old piece of gum stuck to the bottom of it, and you will be the unlucky person that accidentally touches it. This sticky and unsanitary situation can be quite gross, but it as not as gross as the harshly scented bug spray that people often use to ward off the mosquitoes.
6. Bad Timing For Hiccups
Most of the time, people get hiccups from eating or drinking too quickly, and drinking carbonated beverages. Every so often, you may get hiccups at a bad time, like in the middle of class, in the middle of an important conversation or right before a movie starts. Being interrupted by a poorly timed hiccup can be an inconvenience, but it is not as inconvenient as having a bothersome mosquito flying around your house or car.
7. Long Car Trip With No Headphones
If people are going to a cabin, or making another trip over the summer, a car ride is the perfect place to listen to some of your favorite music or to catch up on one of your favorite podcasts. Sometimes, people make the mistake of forgetting their headphones or ear buds at home. Even though you are deprived of your favorite song, many people would rather sit in silence, than have to spend a car ride with a mosquito buzzing around their ear.
8. Impromptu Game Of Frogger While Crossing The Street
Crossing the street can be a dangerous task. Drivers are unpredictable, and when both the driver and the pedestrian cannot decide who should cross the street first, the situation begins to resemble the old school video game “Frogger.” This situation is awkward and potentially dangerous, but this danger is nowhere near as frightening as when someone smacks you to try and ward off a mosquito attack.
9. Being Denied a High Five
Whether you scored a goal during a game, or came up with a witty joke, there is nothing quite like celebrating your achievements with a strong high five. However, there are times when someone does not respond to your high five offering. When this happens, it is easy to play off as a misunderstanding, but the situation can still make some people unhappy. Although this interaction leaves some people hanging, it is not as bad as the impossible to find mosquito bite that people spend all day trying to discover.
10. Tripping on Nothing
If you are clumsy like me, you may find yourself walking down the sidewalk and tripping. Every so often, you look back to see if you tripped over the sidewalk crack, but there is nothing there. If others are around, this incident can be quite embarrassing, but not as embarrassing as swatting around at nothing when you think there is a mosquito around you.
11. Burning Microwave Popcorn
You're preparing to watch a movie or catch on a TV show, so you decide to make yourself a bag of popcorn. You read the instructions and have estimated the perfect popping time. When you realize that you have burned your popcorn it is too late. You decide to eat the popcorn anyway, because only the top part has been burned, but there is still a feeling of defeat. Although the burned popcorn is not the buttery snack you were expecting, this is still better than coming home from a trip up north with a collection of itchy mosquito bites.
Summertime is the time when mosquitos begin to make their appearances, and these situations, no matter how awkward and uncomfortable they may be, are much better then having an encounter with a mosquito.
