11 Signs You're Addicted To Coffee Houses

Coffee houses are a common gathering place, especially for college students and millennials. I had never been to a coffee house before college and even thought they seemed a bit pretentious. Once I got to college, however, I went to a coffee house just to try it out and absolutely loved it. Now, I go to coffee houses often to do homework or write my Odyssey articles. I would even say I have a bit of an addiction to going to coffee houses. Here are 11 signs you're addicted to coffee houses.

1. You go to a coffee house at least once a week

You'd even go more often if you could, but school, life, work, etc. gets in the way. No matter how busy your life is, you always manage to visit a coffee house at least once during the week.

2. Your favorite place to do homework? Obviously a coffee house

The library is so overrated. While everyone else flocks to the campus libraries to do homework, you go to a coffee house to hack away at yours. You find that you focus best in your favorite environment anyways. You also know which coffee houses have the best wifi connection, which is essential for doing homework.

3. Your idea of a fun weekend outing is going to a coffee house

While others may go to parties, the mall, or on a road trip, you would consider a fun weekend outing to be going to a coffee house. Some coffee houses even offer poetry readings or have musical performances, which makes them even more exciting. It may sound lame to some, but any weekend spent at a coffee house is a great weekend to you.

4. You often drag friends along with you, whether they like coffee or not

Your friends are probably sick of getting invitations to go with you to coffee houses by now and roll their eyes whenever you ask. But hey, coffee houses are a great hangout spot, for coffee loves and non-coffee lovers alike.

5. However, you have no problem going alone

If you can't find anyone to go with you, no problem! You'll go sip on your coffee alone while listening to some music. Going to coffee houses alone can even be extremely relaxing and a great way to unwind after a long day.

6. You know a lot about coffee drinks, even if you've never been a barista

You know the difference between lattes, mochas, and cappuccinos. You probably know the difference between different coffee roasts and blends as well. Basically, you're a coffee expert at this point and could easily go behind the counter and make drinks yourself after observing baristas making your drink many times.

7. You have a favorite coffee house and defend it with your life

If anyone asks for your favorite coffee house or what coffee house you'd recommend, a place easily comes to mind. Others may argue that other coffee houses are better, but they won't change your mind, as you have a whole list of reasons why that particular coffee house is the best. You have a mental ranking of local coffee houses as well.

8. You have visited all coffee houses in your area (or are at least working on it)

A goal of yours is to eventually visit all of the coffee houses within a thirty mile radius. In fact, you may have already done so! I even have a t-shirt from visiting at least four coffee houses in Columbus, Ohio.

9. You have gone through the whole menu in at least one coffee house

Since you go to coffee houses so often, you decide to switch up your order each time and try something new. However, you have one favorite item that never fails to make you happy.

10. You are known as a regular and/or have a rewards card

The baristas know you by name at this point and may even have your order memorized. If the coffee house offers any sort of reward system, you are on it and have a ton of points.

11. You probably spend at least $100 a year on coffee houses

If you ever wonder where all your money went, you can look to coffee houses as the culprit. You don't care though; you love going to coffee houses and won't stop, unless you completely run out of money.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
