As we had back into the school season, I see a lot of articles thanking moms for being great--things like "20 Reasons You Should Always Call Your Mom," and "8 Reasons Why Your Mom Is Your Best Friend." The truth is, I've never been super close to my mom, and I find it a lot easier to talk to my dad about most things. In that regard, we should all be thankful for our dads just as well, and here are 11 Reasons Why You Should Thank Your Dad.
1. For loving you at first sight.
Chances are, your dad has loved you since the minute he laid eyes on you. I've always heard stories from my Grandma about how she knew I was a girl because my dad had the happiest look on his face and a twinkle in his eye when he 'rounded the corner from the OR, where my mom had the c-section.
2. For being the first man you ever loved.
Boys have broken your heart again and again, but your dad never has.
3. For being there for you when your heart was broken.
Thanks for making me feel better and always being down to hang out.
4. For teaching you about life, love, and happiness.
Through your own relationships and the actions you took.
5. For cheering you on.
Whether you were in color guard like me, another sport, spelling bees, or high school musicals, your dad was always there to cheer for you. Looking up into the stands to see him was always the best feeling.
6. For encouraging you to always follow your dreams.
Want to be an astronaut? You can do that. A singer? That too. A professor? Yep.
7. For accepting all your flaws.
And by flaws, I do mean that weird phase I went through in high school.
8. For always being there to help with your car issues.
Once, I thought my brakes were going out, so my dad drove two hours to come check it out. It turned out my e-brake was on, which took him three minutes to figure out, and he wasn't even mad. Thanks, dad.
9. For allowing you to be a strong woman.
Because there's nothing I can't do and I'm capable of existing independently, and he showed me that so many times.
10. For being a great example and role model.
I have watched my dad struggle and work hard, and through it all, he has never given up. The lessons he's taught me about persevering are the greatest gift. Featuring my dad's navy picture, because why not?
11. For loving you unconditionally.
'nuff said. Thank you so much for these and so many other things, dad. I love you.
