11 Reasons Why I'm Excited To Be Home With My Dog This Summer
Cynthia Crise

There are lots of things that I miss about my hometown when I'm away at college: local restaurants, my friends and family, and my church. Yet, there is one thing that I miss more than anything—my dog. His name is Stuart. He is a Yorkie and jack russell terrier mix. He is eleven years old. He has a sassy personality and will eat anything besides fruit and vegetables. Stuart is basically my best friend and I had a very hard time leaving him when I came to Tulsa. But, soon I am going home for summer and this is why I'm so excited.

1. He's adorable

Look at that face! I can't wait to be able to scratch his ears when I get home this summer. Having to FaceTime Stuart this year instead of seeing him in person was pretty hard.

2. He goes on walks with me

Actually, most of the time he walks me. Unless it's really hot out because then he gets slow and only wants to stand in the shade.

3. He loves ice cream

Stuart is a great companion when we go get ice cream together in the summer. The ice cream shop even gives him a sample cone that he can demolish in one bite!

4. He likes to sleep

One of Stuart's favorite hobbies is sleeping. Especially now that he's older, he loves sleeping in and taking afternoon naps. I am also a huge fan of napping, so we get along pretty well.

5. He's a troublemaker

Stuart is a troublemaker and loves getting into the trash. He never fails to make me laugh after seeing what kind of mess he got into. Recently, he's somehow been escaping from our fenced-in backyard by chewing through the wood, which makes him an extra-sepcial troublemaker.

6. He's adventurous

Stuart and I love riding in cars with the windows down. We also love going to the river, just as long as he doesn't fall in.

7. He lets me dress him up

His full name is Stuart Banana Crise, so it's fitting that I dressed him up as a banana this year for Halloween.

8. He hates babies

Stuart does not like to share attention with children. Lucky for him, I won't be having children for a very, very long time.

9. He barks at scary men

Stuart is my personal security system. Every time a door-to-door salesman stops by the house, he is the first to let me know.

10. He knows when I'm sad

Whenever I'm sad, Stuart will lay by my side until the crying stops. He doesn't judge me when I lay around in my pajamas all day and pet him.

11. He's a loyal friend

I can't wait to get home and spend three months with my favorite brother. Look at us staring into each other's eyes. We are #goals.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
