Some people think commuting to school is their last resort. But, there are many upsides to living at home that can make it worthwhile!
1. Car.
Obviously, if you’re commuting to college you have your own car. Whether it is top of the line or passed down from your relatives, you have something most residents don’t. You have the freedom of going anywhere at any time.
2. Money.
If you’re commuting to school you most likely have a job. A job means money. And, you treat yourself on the regular.
3. Own bed.
When you come home from a long day of class you can just run and dive into your warm, soft bed. You mattress is soft and not a brick like dorm mattresses. And, if you’re like me you have a queen sized instead of a tiny twin XL.
4. Pets.
Again, when you come home for a long day of class you can just sit on the floor and play with you dog or cat, etc. They love you unconditionally and are so happy when you come home. The hardest part of the day is saying goodbye to them when you’re leaving for class. You could always just skip and pet your puppy all day.
5. Home cooked meals.
The head chef at home is your mom. All though, there might not be trays of food waiting for you at all hours of the day like in the dining hall. She does put time and energy into making delicious dishes like spaghetti and meatballs and mac and cheese at dinner time. Also, you won’t have to worry about getting sick, just fat.
6. Family.
They can be annoying, but, your family will always be there for you because, well, you live with them.
7. Wifi.
The wifi at home is stronger than a bodybuilder. You can spend all day on the computer without the fear of sites crashing and losing all your work because you aren't using the same server as hundreds of other people.
8. No roommate.
Although roommates or suite mates are usually some of your best friends sometimes we all just need to be alone. I can have well-deserved alone or nap time and not be rudely interrupted by frat boys down the hall. And, I can let my room get as dirty as I want as long as I block out the sound of my parents yelling at me.
9. No fire drills.
Waking up at 3 a.m. for a fake fire drill? Hell, no. I need my beauty rest. I don’t remember in my 20 years of living a fire alarm in our house going off more than three times. And, usually it’s like three times a week in a college dorm.
10. No room inspections.
It’s not that you’re keeping illegal drugs in your possession, but it’s nice to know you can light a candle (or have Christmas lights and extension cords) without the fear of being fined.
11. Saving money.
Overall, the main point of commuting is to save money. You don’t have to pay for housing or a dining plan. You have your own house (your parents) and your own dining plan (Mom). This probably the last time in your life where living with mom and dad is acceptable, so enjoy it.
