As we end the 2017 year and enter 2018, we get a fresh new start in order to better ourselves. The most common resolution is usually to hit the gym, along with the other 4 million people that want that beach bod by Spring. There is nothing wrong with wanting to get that six pack, but I’m here to tell you that there’s more you can do to improve yourself and the people around you in this new upcoming year.

1. Love Yourself

This is something very important that should be done year-round. You are an amazing person that deserves every ounce of self-care and love.

2. Love Others (even more)

Yet another that should already be a priority in your life, but this year make it known to the others around you that you love them. Call, text, email, DM someone to let them know you are thinking about them and care.

3. Read More Books

Get your face out of your phone screen and into a book. Those funny tweets and memes will still be there when you’re done. Immersing yourself in a good read will be better than Ashley’s Facebook drama.

4. Take That Trip

The time is now, not tomorrow, not tonight, or yesterday, it’s now. Go to your nearest travel agent and book that flight to Mexico.

5. Do A Lil' Yoga

This not only relaxes your mind but your overall physical health as well. Grab a yoga mat and get to it this year.

6. Exercise (for you)

Yes, I mentioned before that this a popular resolution, and it should be done, but for the right reasons. Don’t sweat for more Instagram likes, sweat because you’re bettering yourself.

7. Work Hard

Don’t just think about that short or long-term goal, but actually do something about it. A little each day can go a long, long way.

8. Not Too Hard Though

Take time for breaks too, an overworked person is not a good person. My favorite motto-Treat yo’self.

9. Learn A New Skill

Try a new recipe, go skiing, or paint a picture. Expand your hobbies and surprise yourself with what you can do.

10. Pay It Forward

In the Arby’s drive-thru line? Pay for the people behind you, even if it is a ridiculous amount of 40 dollars.

11. Try To Impeach Trump

I feel like we don’t even have to try with this one, let’s just hope he does it on his own.

I hope you take all of these resolutions into consideration and have a great new year.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
