At the beginning of each school year, the hustle and bustle of college life is the perfect motivation for establishing goals. Whether you want to get more involved, have better grades, better yourself, or learn a new skill, setting goals is a great way to thrive on any campus.
This week, Longwood University's Junior Class Council put their heads together and created the ultimate Junior Year bucket list.
David Gills, Kiersten Freedman, Joseph Atkins, and John Garrett present the junior class with the following 11 goals:
1. Make Dean's List.
Working hard to get good grades should be the focus of every college student. The Junior Class Council thinks it's a goal all Juniors should try to accomplish this semester.
"After a semester of hard work, getting a letter from the Dean of your college semester feels really great. It also feels really good when your GPA goes up as well."
2. Find a mentor.
Having a mentor is very beneficial. Whenever you need help, support, or just someone to have lunch with, they'll be there for you.
"A mentor is someone that you look up to for guidance and assistance. Your mentor could be someone in an organization, an interesting professor, or your boss. This mentor is there to help you through the stresses of Junior year. "
3. Hit the gym.
You'll need the extra energy this year!
"Being healthy should always be a goal. It’s always safe to say that you should go to the gym at least 2 times a week. It’s a good way to get healthy and get in shape."
4. Go to the library.
The library, although it may be far from your apartment, is a great studying space full of great resources!
"The library is one of the best places to get things done. Go to the library and utilize all of the different benefits."
5. "Hit the Quan."
A direct quote from David Gills himself, go out and have some fun! Get your homework done throughout the week and make time for your social life!
"Never turn down the chance to go out and have fun. It might not be smart to go to the Bar every night but you should still have fun. You are only in college, once, live it up!"
6. Take a leadership position.
Step out of your comfort zone and attain a leadership role! Being a citizen leader on campus is one of many opportunities Longwood offers!
"Junior year is a time to step out of your comfort zone. I would like to encourage everybody to take a leadership role. Joining organizations are great resume boosters; however, when an interviewer asks what you did in that organization; be prepared to tell the interviewer how you have made an impact."
7. Polish your resume.
Only two more years and your resume is REALLY going to impact your life! Make sure it reflects who you are and what you've accomplished!
"Having a great resume is the first step in finding a great internship. Show case your skills, interests, and personality with a great resume!"
8. Explore internships.
It's time! Make sure you have some internship ideas planned!
"Every major is required to have an internship, use your resources in order to find yourself an awesome internship!"
9. Never complain, stay positive.
It's hard sometimes, but thinking positively is a great way to have a great junior year.
"Be positive and boost morale, it is good for the soul."
10. Don't miss out.
Don't let your fears or reservations prevent you from having a blast.
"Take all of the opportunities that you are given. These are supposed to be some of the best times of your life, live it up!"
11. Never stop loving your major.
Junior year is going to test you, but you've got this.
"You have now reached junior year. You're in almost all major classes. Your classes have now gotten very hard, and it's easy to think that your major is not for you anymore. Remember to work hard and remember why you originally choose your major."
Longwood University's Junior Class Council wishes every junior a great, successful year!
