"Gilmore Girls" is famous and acclaimed for it's witty and unique dialogue. An episode averaged at having about 75 page of script in comparison to most hour-long shows having around 40 to 50. In those pages are hundreds of quips and Lorelai-exagagerations which are still relevant and quotable. (Oy with the poodles already!) However "Gilmore Girls" also did an excellent job at slipping in those deeper concepts in a realistic way that really hit us hard. With the Netflix revival coming up, I anchored down some of the times Gilmore Girls got extremely real. Here are the realizations and feelings our favorite Stars Hollow women brought out in us.
1. You have to really live.
It's so easy to brush through life doing what we are supposed to be doing because society has told us to. Following the pattern isn't necessarily a bad thing, but we can't forget to take the leap sometimes and simply do something because it's crazy and exhilarating.
2. Some people just aren't meant to be.
You can have this amazing connection with someone and care about them unconditionally but that doesn't always mean this is the person you're meant to be with.
3. Sometimes you just have to move on.
Rory had to get over Jess the same way we rip bandaids off. She really had no choice. There wasn't much of a chance for her to mourn or really understand what happened. There was all of this uncertainty and so many unanswered questions. Somehow Rory was stronger than most of us and just let it go.
4. We are forced to understand situations we never expected to be in.
Rory became "the other woman" to Lindsay. It's something 99% of us tell ourselves we will never be. But the situation showed that there are factors that cause any event, and these factors can be complicated. We make mistakes sometimes these are what let us see the other side.
5. Make a meaningful life.
We all just want to do some great things while we are in this terrifying thing called existence. The show breezes by this quote but it could not be more relatable.
6. Perfect moments are always fleeting.
It's hard to be in a moment and not think about the next moment or the one after that instead of solely enjoying it.
7. Live life fully exhilarated.
If you're not in a constant state of new adventures in one way or another, then you're missing out. Every moment should be a direct reflection of your passions which will never fail to take your breath away.
8. We're tired of always being let down.
The biggest problem with Rory and Jess and why she most likely couldn't run away with him is the fact that he was unreliable when she just wanted someone she could depend on. It's scary--trusting people-- and we don't usually know if it'll be worth it. And when you have that gut feeling that you have to let someone go because you can't count on them...it's devastating.
9. Why do people make such a big deal about dating and looking for a partner?
Working through the mass of people on this planet to find the one you like the best is just an effort to find someone to hang out with forever, so why does everyone freak out when someone confesses their feelings to them? If the feeling isn't mutual then whatever, continue looking? Why does it have to be weird??
10. The desire to be fiercely independent.
It happens. We get hung up on the lie that is loneliness. We don't want to be. It's embarrassing.
11. Feelings have more say than logic.
Ultimately we follow what we want, which is a reflection of what we feel, and as Selena Gomez says... the heart wants what it wants, baby.
