Let me begin by saying, I do not consider myself a Southerner. Sure, I’ve lived over half of my life in Virginia, which is technically the South, but I don’t align myself with the Southerner idea. I’ve resisted and fought developing any type of Southern accent, still don’t really say “ma’am,” and, most importantly, HATE country music.

Yes, you read that right. I hate country music.

This doesn’t always work out for me, especially because a couple of my friends constantly have country music playing. Full disclaimer, though, I have a soft spot for Brad Paisley. However, my enjoyment of one artist is not enough to overcome my dislike of the rest of the genre. All that being said, I’ve found 11 songs that have the honor of being in my super epic playlist. So here they are, 11 songs worth loving from a girl who hates country music.

1. "Young & Crazy" by Frankie Ballard

Encouraging the rebel in all of us just a little bit, this song is a fun anthem for our “young and crazy” years.

2. "Country Nation" by Brad Paisley

Ironic, isn’t it, that a girl who hates country music loves a song that’s all about being a country nation. My one excuse is that it references college football (and UVA!) in it and how can I pass up football? Plus, I take satisfaction in getting all of the sports teams’ mascots right when he lists them out.

3. "Think of You" by Chris Young and Cassadee Pope

I had to put a “sad” song in the bunch and this one is one of my favorites. Gorgeous harmonies and sadness about being dumped? I’ll take it.

4. "You Look Like I Need A Drink" by Justin Moore

I love the premise behind this one, especially because we all know the feeling of someone approaching us with bad news.

5. "Castaway" by Zac Brown Band

The beat to this song is great and it’s so fun to sing along with! It’s the perfect warm weather, sunny day song. Also who doesn’t want to go somewhere tropic?

6. "Without a Fight" by Brad Paisley and Demi Lovato

Like I said, I love Brad Paisley. That being said, I particularly love this one because of his duet with Demi. Bringing Demi in makes it feel less country, plus their harmonies are beautiful.

7. "Road Less Traveled" by Lauren Alaina

You know all those times you need to sing at the top of your lungs? This song is perfect for those moments.

8. "You Look Good" by Lady Antebellum

This jam is actually so fun to get ready to. I know it’s weird to think about country music as hype music, but this song is all about going out and having a good time. Exactly what I want for my nights out!

9. "Wagon Wheel" by Darius Rucker

It’s a classic and couldn’t be left off the list. It’s probably one with a more “country” sound to it, but it’s been around for so long that it’s wormed its way into my good graces. But I also have friends who love country music and hate this song, so maybe it all works out in the end?

10. "Meant to Be" by Bebe Rexha ft. Florida Georgia Line

This one is catchy! I don’t have much else to say except that it’ll get stuck in your head for so long after you hear it. Oh, and it repeats itself a lot, so it’s easy to learn the words.

11. "Drinkin' Problem" by Midland

Bonus: Midland just recently released their full album, so if you love this song be sure to check out the rest!

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
