Now that it’s summer time, most of us are probably sitting around in the house watching the five thousandth episode of whatever series you’ve been watching for the last two weeks, laying out by the pool, or checking your phone every two minutes. With this time on our hands, we have time to actually read a book for fun. With so many movies coming out these days based on best selling books, we can discover t oftentimes the book is better then the movie. Here is a list of eleven books to check out that are going to be hitting the theaters soon.

1. The Girl On The Train


The Girl On Train is a psychological thriller written by Paula Hawkins. The story revolves aroundRachel, a woman who rides the commuter train every day, and the story that unfolds surrounding it. Every day she passes the same group of houses while on the train that allows her to see the same couple eating breakfast. She thinks their life appears to be perfect, but a change of events takes her places she would never expect. The film based on the novel is said to star Emily Blunt and Justin Theroux among others. The movie will be released October seventh of this year.

2. The Light Between Oceans

The Light Between Oceans, written by M.L Stedman is a historical novel about a fisherman and his wife and some strange things they discover near their home in Australia following world war I. The movie based on the book will star Michael Fassbender, and will be released to movie theaters in September.

3. A Monster Calls

A Monster Calls, written by Patrick Ness is a novel about a young boy who experiences bullying and the sickness that his mother is experiencing. To help to cope with his circumstances, he creates fantasy worlds with monsters and other types of creatures. The movie will star Sigourney Weaver, Liam Neeson, and Felicity Jones. It will be released to theaters In October of this year.

4. The Zookeeper's Wife


The Zookeeper's Wife, written by Diane Ackerman is a true historical novel about Jan and Antonina Zabinski, who were polish Zoo keepers. During the time of the Nazi's and WWII, they saved numerous people by utilizing empty zoo cages. The film based on the book will star Jessica Chastain and be released some time this year.

5. The Great Gilly Hopkins

The Great Gilly Hopkins is a children's fiction book written by Katherine Paterson about Gilly Hopkins, a young foster child and her quest to find a family. The book may be one that you read yourself in your younger days, and the cast is no exception. Sophie Nélisse is set to play Gilly Hopkins, with her mom being played by The Prince and Me's Julia Stiles. The film will be released on February 19th of this year.

6. Nerve


Nerve, a novel written by Jeanne Ryan is a young adult novel about NERVE, an online intense game of truth or dare. When Vee begins to play the game, she learns that it is not quite what she expected. Nerve will star Harry Potter's Emma Roberts and David Franco, and will be released this summer.

7. The Queen Of Katwe


The Queen of Katwe, written by Tim Crothers is a true story about a young chess prodigy named Phiona Mutesi who grew up in the slums of Uganda. Coming from nothing, she learned to play chess and changed her life. The film based on the book will be released this september and will star Lupita N'Yongo as her mother.

8. Silence

Silence by Shūsaku Endõ is a fictional story about a group of Jesuits that have a goal of creating christians during the 18th century in Japan. The film is set to release later this year, with the cast including Andrew Garfield and Liam Neeson.

9. The Circle


The Circle written by Dave Eggers is a novel about a young woman who quickly works her way up the ladder at a large business company. The film adapted from the novel is set to release later this year and will star Emma Watson and Tom Hanks.

10. Eleanor and Park

Eleanor and Park, written by Rainbow Rowell is the story of Eleanor and Park; two sixteen year olds growing up in the 1980's. The story takes you through one year of their relationship and how young romance grows. The movie is set to release later in 2016.

11. The November Criminals


The November Criminals, written by Sam Munson is a coming-of-age story about Addison Schacht, a senior in high school who has other things on his mind besides graduating. These include keeping his relationship with his girlfriend and selling drugs to his classmates. When he gets an essay prompt asking about his best and worst qualities, he is forced to decide who he actually is. The film based on the book is set to release later this year, with Ansel Elgort and Chloë Grace Moretz as part of the cast.
