With finals coming up, here are some quick tips to get you through testing:
1. Study Ahead of Time
Don't wait until the last minute. Reviewing material over different time intervals will help you remember and process all the information. It is really hard to remember a semester's worth of material cramming the night before an exam.
2. Read the Text
I have found that going through the textbook and comparing your notes will help you to make sure you haven't missed any of the information you'll be tested on.
3. Make Flashcards or Quizlet
Sometimes when reading just isn't enough, flash cards are a great way to test yourself on information by writing a question on one side with the answer on the other.
4. Get Plenty of Sleep the Night Before
Sleep deprivation can cause you to become tired during the test. Your brain won;t process information as well.
5. Eat Before and Drink Water
Your body functions best when filled with nutrients. A few fun places to take a break with friends during finals are Highland Coffee or Coffee Call. If you live on campus, sometime grabbing a quick snack and drink from Outtakes or the 5.
6. Get Your Scantron Ahead of Time
If you need a scantron for your exam, grab one the day before the exam to make sure you'll be able to get one in time. At LSU, the Student Government supplies students with free scantrons in their office. They can also be purchased in the book store and in Coates.
7. Take Breaks.
Taking 5 minute breaks after studying for long periods can help you relax and refresh. Maybe take a walk outside and get some fresh air.
8. Form Study Groups.
Sometimes classmates are better able to explain material to you that you didn't understand in class. Middelton Library can be crowded at LSU during finals, but the Union stays open late. For freshmen and others living on campus, the dorms have ample study rooms too.
9. Go to Review Sessions.
Many professors or supplemental instructors give review sessions leading up to finals. They can prove to be very beneficial.
10. Talk to Your Professor.
Professors are more willing to help when you go to talk to them.
