Everyone has those rough patches in their life. Maybe you're going through a breakup, a recent move away from home, or the loss of a friendship or loved one. Maybe that job you wanted to land didn't work out, or maybe you're just feeling a little lost, depressed, or confused. Whatever it may be, you have the opportunity to make this summer a fresh start.

I am right there with you, and my advice to you: sit down and make a list of things you'd like to focus on this summer. The items on the list can range from simple to grandiose, but above all, make them about you.

Below are some ideas to spark some inspiration.

1. Spend more time with friends

In tough times, many people tend to retract away and exclude themselves from activities involving other people or being out in public. However, as much as you'd rather sit at home and overthink, you should force yourself to be around others. This will take your mind off of things and allow you to have some fun, and of course, everyone needs a support system. Your friends can both listen to you when you need to talk and help you move on.

2. Make time to be alone (but only a little)

Time with others is important, but you still need a little time to yourself. Find something you enjoy like catching up on Grey's, reading, writing, or listening to music. You'll want some to regroup and reflect, just be careful not to get yourself into too much solitude.

3. Experience the great outdoors

Nature isn't everyone's cup of tea, but it is a fabulous way to help you feel peaceful and grounded. Make some time to go on a walk or take a long drive on a sunny day. You could even plan a camping trip!

4. Leap out of your comfort zone

Whether it's traveling, getting out on the dance floor, skydiving, getting your first tattoo, or stepping up to the stage on karaoke night, find something that intrigues you and go for it! Try something new, overcome a fear, get an adrenaline rush, whatever it may be, I promise you'll feel amazing afterwards!

5. Take a break from dating
This is an opportunity to focus on yourself, and getting caught up in someone else could interfere with that. Consider taking a break from the craziness of relationships. Let yourself be free and accountable only to yourself. Besides, if you're not in the best mindset, you likely won't attract positive romantic relationships.

6. Focus on goals

You've probably heard that people that set goals are more likely to achieve what they want. Setting out to accomplish something that's important to you is a positive thing to channel your energy into when you have a lot on your mind, and focusing on your future will get you excited about what's ahead of you.

7. Appreciate the little things

As corny as it may sound, trying to have a positive mindset can help you get through tough times. Look around you and try to notice little things make you happy: a sunny day, your pet, a favorite song. When it feels like nothing is right, the things that make you smile can really add up.

8. Take steps towards a healthier lifestyle

There's tons of different ways that you can get a good work-out -- sports, yoga, lifting weights, jogging, etc. There's something out there for everyone! Exercise releases endorphins in the brain that make you feel happier and more at ease. Not only that, but eating cleaner and creating a healthier lifestyle for yourself can help you be more confident and feel better overall.

9. Grieve

Moving on is important, but it only works if you deal with what is bothering you. Give yourself some time each day to be upset, but set a strict limit and go out and do something fun for yourself when that time is up. You have a right to your feelings, but you deserve to be happy.

10. Stop worrying and embrace your mistakes

Forgive yourself. Don't dwell on the past. Realize that you can only do so much and give yourself some room to mess up every now and then. Learn to laugh at yourself. You can't control everything, and worrying is just wasted time. It is what it is. What will or wont' happen will happen regardless of how much you worry about it.

Whatever you decide to add to your list for the summer, make it your own.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
