Summer time is finally here, which means it's time for some fun in the sun. We’ve all spent the last couple of months “dieting” and “working out” to get our summer bods ready. Some of us are happy with our results, but the majority of us are not. Society puts a lot of pressure on us to look as good as celebrities in our bathing suits. The expectations are unrealistic, but fun methods of exercise are not. Below are 10 fun, inexpensive ways to get exercise during the summer.
1. Beach volleyball
Most beaches have a summer volleyball league in which you can sign up to play competitive or non-competitive volleyball. Beach volleyball is a great way to let loose, meet new people and have fun.
2. Beach anything
Even if you opt out of beach volleyball, there are plenty of other exercises you can do at the beach. Many people enjoy jogging or bicycling along the shoreline or boardwalk of the beach. Some boardwalks have fitness stations for pullups and other workouts. Beaches will almost always have free space for you to do any workout of your choice.
3. Hiking
Hiking is a great way to get in touch with nature and get your steps in. With the invention of the Fit Bit, many people have become obsessed with the counting steps. National parks are fun and safe ways to enjoy nature and exercise. Additionally, some parks have work out stations as well.
4. Swimming
Even if you are not a beach person, you can still swim! Whether you go to a local pool or a friend's pool, swimming is a great cardio workout and a refreshing way to cool off on a hot day.
5. Biking
Some boardwalks have bicycles that you can rent for a couple hours. If not, I highly recommend buying a bicycle if you do not already have one. Bike riding is a fun, breezy exercise that can also cool you off.
6. Kayaking
Kayaking not only works out your arms but your core, too. It is an overall fun workout that allows you to clear your mind.
7. Paddle boarding
Paddle boarding is all about balance. This workout not only benefits your core, but also your arms. Some people opt to do yoga on paddle boards to get an even better workout!
8. Surfing
Surfing may be one of the most fun ways to enjoy the ocean. Surfing basically works out your whole body.
9. Walking
Yep, even something as simple as walking counts as exercise. When the weather is gorgeous, do not hesitate to walk everywhere. If you have to go somewhere that is in walking distance, walk.
10. Pickup games
Since school is out for the summer, schools fields and turfs are usually open. Call a couple friends for a pickup game of baseball soccer or any other sport.
